Its not even to the point of nuance; they believe in nothing. It's all just tribalist identity shit like the fasch do.
They have to be identifiably different than the fasch, ajd that's thebonly reason their 'policies' are better.
It sucks cuz I’m starting to feel lemmy is being really dominated by them. Like in the past I felt I could share anarchist views even on lemmy.world comms if I dont mind a bit of debate, but now the liberals outnumber so much that that doesn’t work anymore.
I still share my anarchist views everywhere. Long live anarchocommunism!

I fucking know, irs like the polycrisis of information/death of truth/sundering of civil society that they can't actually acknowledge because it would involve admitting they were never the good guys/bloody legacy of edward bernays/not killing enough of the bad guys when they forced us to go to war/rather-be-happy-than-right en masse all kinda... Were I dictator, I'd mandate critical thought classes through all of primary education.
I got lucky, had a hippie science teacher from 1st through 6th grade that hammered us on the meaning of empiricism and the scientific method. Taught us how to craft an experiment and judge the results.
Judging by what I read on FaceBook before bailing out, that instruction didn't stick for many of my Gen X people.
Gen X going from "My generation will put it right, we're not just making promises that we know we'll never keep" to becoming the evil they swore to destroy definitely goes in my top ten anime betrayals compilation.

Liberalism is by definition capitalist. It’s what gave us capitalism. So unless you only follow the social aspects (ie. social liberalism), then I don’t think it can be truly leftist, as in anti-capitalist.
I see liberals more as social group than a capitalist one. The "free market" shit is tacked on by rich neolibs working the other side of the fence

But I understand the usage of the word, especially in the US in recent times, has tended to mean something more akin to center-left.
"centre-left" in the US of course meaning "vaguely remembers being told nazis aren't good" in the rest of the world
It's not defined as capitalist it has a bit thrown in for "government don't fuck with my money" which rich people(neolibs) use as a shield
