Liberalism is by definition capitalist. It’s what gave us capitalism. So unless you only follow the social aspects (ie. social liberalism), then I don’t think it can be truly leftist, as in anti-capitalist.

I see liberals more as social group than a capitalist one. The "free market" shit is tacked on by rich neolibs working the other side of the fence

I mean liberalism is by definition capitalist.

But I understand the usage of the word, especially in the US in recent times, has tended to mean something more akin to center-left.

"centre-left" in the US of course meaning "vaguely remembers being told nazis aren't good" in the rest of the world

It's not defined as capitalist it has a bit thrown in for "government don't fuck with my money" which rich people(neolibs) use as a shield
