Here’s the video she filmed herself, of herself trying to kidnap a child, on her own profile.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8qBnKzk_npY

The push happens around the 2:13 mark, but the whole thing needs the absurdity of the context.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 45 points 1 year ago

Yeah that was definitely a totally normal thing for a person to do

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 36 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Tf? WHY? What was her reasoning?

[–] Whats_your_reasoning@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It sounds like a classic white savior complex to me.

Excellent question, btw.

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah, it looks like she thinks she's so famous that of course they'll know who she is. The fake accent, the "not the husband just you and the kids", "this is dirty, leave it" all of it combined with the super obvious fact that's she's stoned out of her gourd make me think she thought she was doing a good thing... Like, she had good intentions... But you know what they say about the road to hell. She was stoned, and oblivious, and egotistical, arrogant, and of course white woman knows best... I know literally nothing else about her personal life other than this video and that she lives in Dubai now (both of which I learned from this thread). I'm withholding judgement for what a sober Lindsay is like, but this speaks to some sad shit.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The "not your husband" comment just screams human trafficking to me. I know that's probably not what she was going for but if I ever heard that I'd be shoving and running the fuck away too.

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 year ago

I mean, can also sort of get it the other way around, too. Like, she doesn't want a strange man she doesn't know back at the hotel with her. But also, 1, it's fucked to separate a family, it's screams of trying to get them into a vulnerable position, and also, she's clearly not trying to, like, house these people. Just give them a room for tonight, best case scenario. I do not blame Mama for knocking her down one teeny tiny bit, even if she knows she's a celebrity and probably not a human trafficking nutjob.

That’s what I kind of thought but I couldn’t find anything that supported that and she was clearly not in the right state of mind so I was like “well maybe that had nothing to do with it”

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Looks like it was the classic "i want to be a mother for a night".

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 31 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Like literally like Paris Hilton in South Park?!

"Why do my pets keep killing themselves‽"

She is so disconnected about how a refugee in a foreign country is going through and wants to just take the kids and the mom leaving the father and phrase it in the worst possible way. What did she expect lol

[–] TonyTonyChopper@mander.xyz 8 points 1 year ago

Expecting Syrian refugees in Paris to speak English is so acutely American

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 46 points 1 year ago (2 children)

First I’ve heard about the attempted kidnapping. But then again, usually when I see “Lindsay Lohan” it the headline, I skip the article.

I hope she stays in Dubai.

Edit: ~~I blame Paris Hilton for ruining her.~~

I was ignorant about what kind of person Hilton has become.

[–] Rakonat@lemmy.world 40 points 1 year ago (6 children)

I definitely hated Hilton in the 00s but she's been a standup and model citizen compared to Lohan. Lohan has a family history of drug abuse and turned into a train wreck on her own. Hilton by all accounts is a decent person with nearly every controversy she's in coming down to she's from rich white money so cameras followed her everywhere. Supposedly she's a huge amateur radio enthusiast.

[–] mriswith@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Paris Hilton isn't exactly a genius, but she's miles smarter than most of her "collegues" from that era.

[–] Maeve@midwest.social 2 points 1 year ago

Miles more equipped, for reasons we can't know.

[–] ryedaft@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

Too many coincidences. She does the reality show with Nicole Ritchie which is fine. Nicole has problems with eating disorder, Paris gets more tabloid attention. Paris becomes friends with Lindsey Lohan (big star at the time), Lindsey goes off the deep end. And then the same thing happens with Britney Spears and that producer dude that Paris dates (I think he was twice her age and left his wife because of her). He produces an excellent album for her actually. It's hard not to see a pattern. And even with regular drug abuse people usually don't fall apart as badly and as publicly as those three did.

Hilton was also kidnapped and shipped off to several "scared straight" torture camps by her family as a teenager..

She had some horrible shit done to her, and apprently vowed to make her own money separate from her family. The vapid, "that's hot" party girl persona was her succeeding.

Shes come out hard against what happened to her and tries to help current victims. She managed to get legislation passed to help them, but also takes a more direct approach.

[–] spinne@sh.itjust.works 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, after reading about her being very public and adamantly against the troubled teen torture camps, I had to really confront the assumptions I'd made about her in the past. She's a very privileged person who's doing an important thing for some of the most vulnerable people in society. I have a ton of respect for her!

I’m glad the conversation happened, I typically tune out any celebrity news and this turned out to be a good discussion to read and learn more about. I can’t say I’ve ever held an opinion about any of these celebrity folks beyond being entitled trash but I agree with the conclusion you presented that I’m replying to.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 8 points 1 year ago

I didn’t know about any of that. Definitely not what I would’ve expected! Thanks for the links!

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

It almost seems like that if you take any problem in a country and make a business opportunity out of it, that that is a really bad idea...

[–] Maeve@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

Paris was ignored by wealthy parents and sent to one of those abusive youth camps. That's the root.

Lol, knowing Dubai, she probably can't leave

[–] Jimmycakes@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

She will need to pay of the debts first

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

Aren't the locals above everyone else there?

[–] Ilovethebomb@sh.itjust.works 46 points 1 year ago

Well, that kidnapping story was quite a read. Yeesh.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

She tried to kidnap someone?

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 44 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Yeah, I found that hard to believe, too! But yes, it did happen. You should not be surprised that race was involved. Karens gotta Karen.

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

Holy shit, and she posted it herself? I thought this was some paparazzi situation.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)
[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 year ago

She sounds high. That isn't a good excuse, though!

[–] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago

So many comments saying"she thought she was helping" Bitch, so did hitler!

[–] thagoat@lemmy.sdf.org 12 points 1 year ago

What's the before? The right? What's up with that?

[–] deadbeef79000@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 year ago

I had to check that I was thinking of the same actor who was in Mean Girls.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 4 points 1 year ago

We already knew she was a crazy idiot, there's no logical explanation for anything that takes around in her drug-scorched brain.
