Working on the RG Epyon this weekend, stellar build so far!

@RaspberryJam @Akaru88 RG Epyon is one of the kits I finished assembling recently. Super fun kit. Don't lose the tiny pieces like I did (eventually found it). Also the DelpiDecal waterslides for it look fantastic, if you want to spend the extra time and money.

My RG Epyon has been done for almost 2 years but MG Epyon is in the backlog

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

RG Epyon was a good one. Definitely an overlooked RG kit.

When I built that I was expecting it to be like RG wing or wing zero but I was wrong.

[–] RaspberryJam@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

How so? I haven't built either of those

[–] Akaru88@ani.social 2 points 5 months ago (2 children)

In the lore, I think Epyon was supposed to be based on the wing zero but I don’t remember the builds being similar. But it’s been a couple years since I built any of those so my memory may be fuzzy.

That sounds right but I also remember having a hard time following what was going on in Wing for the most part lol

[–] TallonMetroid@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

That was referring just to the ZERO System.

Thinking about it I should put any work into my HAL9000 today so I can finish it and get back to finishing my planned Crossbone Ghost scene. We’ll see…

I'm working on my GBWC (official contest) entry currently. Hopefully, I'll wrap up the painting portion in the next couple days, then it will be on to panel lining.

[–] Akaru88@ani.social 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Nice. What does that consist of?

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

I'm doing 3 HG kits, GN Archer, Arios, and Harute, on a display. I don't have experience creating dioramas, so the display will just be some foam board and paint. In retrospect, choosing these 3 kits may not have been the best idea due to the amount of extra work I've had to do to make them look decent, lots of sanding and putty needed, but oh well. WIP after the snap build and majority of the putty and sanding was done:

What all do you have to do to a kit to enter? Does it have to be fully custom or does a nice paint job stand a chance of placing?

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 months ago

You don't have to do anything to a kit in order to enter, as long as it's within regulation. The main thing is you must use official Bandai Gunpla or Gundam-themed kits, including decals. Things like putty, pla plate, LEDs, and other "general modeling materials" are also permitted. Official regulations here: https://gbwc.bandai-hobby.net/en/regulation/

Here's the finalists from last year's tournament: https://gbwc.bandai-hobby.net/worldfinalist/result.php

I've been watching the new Ryosangata Ruka series. It's not bad, but so far I'm not sure it holds a candle to the three seasons of Ryosangata Riko.

The shopkeeper was my favorite character, doesn't feel the same without him. But crossing fingers it seems like they may be setting up a guest appearance.

I forgot to post about it Wednesday when it happened but my wife brought home an MG Nu VerKa that she found at Michael’s for $50 as a surprise

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 2 points 4 months ago

I loved that build except for the color-correcting stickers. I'm of the mind that a high-end kit like a ver.ka should be designed in a way that doesn't require them. I ended up not using them and the model still looks great.

Does anybody know if spru-goo will work with resin?

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Your best bet would be CA glue. Second would be 2-part epoxy. Plastic cement/sprue goo works best with polystyrene.

[–] TallonMetroid@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago (1 children)

As far as adhesion goes, I haven't really noticed any difference between CA and epoxy. CA has the advantage that it cures super quick when exposed to moisture, so you don't need to hold the pieces in place for very long, but at the same time that's also a disadvantage because unless you're constantly breaking stuff or doing lots of customization that requires glue you'll probably only get to use a tube of CA a handful of times before ambient moisture turns the whole thing into a useless lump.

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah, I put CA glue ahead of epoxy since it's easier to work with. You can also get instant set spray to have CA glue cure in seconds.

[–] Akaru88@ani.social 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Will CA glue fill a low spot?

[–] wirelesswire@lemmy.zip 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yes, I've used it as a gap and dip filler. Sand it down once it's set. It will gum up your sandpaper pretty quickly, though.

Thanks for the info!
