I am US-American, and (putting aside for a minute all the uncomfortable patriotism,) I am straight up not having a good time today with all the fireworks going off in my neighborhood. It's literally just POP POP POP everywhere all at once. I'm sure lots of us are in the same boat.

I want to make this post to reaffirm that your feelings are valid. It's your senses, your brain, your way of processing the world, and you have a right to be kind to yourself tonight if you're struggling with US-American Independence Day fireworks.

Stay safe, and take care of yourselves ♥️.

In my country fireworks are more and more discouraged with every year, either by official government announcements or just third party media. Mostly due to it being terrible for animals' health. Personally I never really saw the appeal.

Fuck fireworks. All I have to say.

We were on the river last night, almost under the fireworks like we were last year. My autistic daughter loves it. Still hates us doing karaoke in the house. :(

Same. Love fireworks. Hate karaoke.

Haha I think I might be your daughter

barely heard anything this year. People don't feel like there is anything to celebrate

edit: curious about the geographic variance here. This is a blue state

[–] FollyDolly@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Red state here, way, way less fireworks than normal. I think poeple out my way are broke.

I live in a red state, fireworks everywhere

London, UK. We had fireworks last night. Never heard them here before for this, I got confused and assumed it was a second ramadan this year

This year has been quieter than the last few; the booms not as big, and not as many in the past week. People are much poorer around here is my takeaway

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Yeah, I'm not even hearing the idiot in the next neighborhood shoot his gun at the sky.

Also some people are not wanting to draw any attention to themselves. And others realized wildfires can happen in regular neighborhoods, not just in the wild.

I’ve heard two pops and that’s about it… I think most people in LA (at least my area) are still a little too traumatized by the fires to want to play around with fireworks. They’re doing drone shows in a lot of areas now.

[–] fallingsky04@piefed.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 days ago

In my neighborhood it is a constant rumble 0_0 so it's definitely not the same everywhere around LA.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

We are in the basement. But can still hear them.

I'm sitting here ...debating duct taping this Super Dragon Sizzler Deluxe to my head and taking off for good.

Super Dragon Sizzler Deluxe

I'm assuming that's a firework?

I feel you. Hope you feel better in a few hours when all this Independence Day crap is over ♥️.
