Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump continued on Tuesday to float his idea, which some legal experts say is unconstitutional, to deport U.S. citizens who commit crimes.

Speaking to the press during a tour of a migrant detention center in the Florida Everglades, the president repeated claims that there are many immigrants who are now citizens and have been committing serious crimes.

"They're not new to our country. They're old to our country. Many of them were born in our country. I think we ought to get them the hell out of here, too, if you want to know the truth," he said. "So maybe that will be the next job."

Somebody please correct me if I'm mistaken, but isn't Trump a convicted felon who has not yet been sentenced?

[–] officermike@lemmy.world 58 points 1 year ago

He was sentenced. The sentence was effectively a judicial shrug.

[–] henfredemars@infosec.pub 24 points 1 year ago (1 children)

A mere formality. He can just go ask the Supreme Court to declare that he’s not a felon or something. Does it make any sense? No, but does any of it?

They just need to vote quickly on what would in the best interest of the country.

Vote A: The Supreme Court needs a private jet

Vote B: The Supreme Court needs a luxury yacht

As soon as that vote is made, they can start negotiations with the Trump administration on a plea deal.

[–] throbbing_banjo@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

He was sentenced to President. America is not a serious country.

How about you start with the criminals who have 34 felony convictions?

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Many of them were born in our country. So where do they go? Labor death camps.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 35 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Or they come from countries which don't recognize dual citizenship, so if they have US citizenship, they no longer have it in their original country.

Making somebody stateless is a crime by UN law.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 17 points 1 year ago

Wonderful a new crime for the list!

[–] bdjukemgood@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Australia! Just like old times.

[–] michaelmrose@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

Wait where do I get my free ticket to a better country?

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 3 points 1 year ago

Yeah nah, last I checked we weren't a US colony .. or anyone's for that matter, so that shits not gonna float. That said, our last group of Right Wing arseholes negotiated their own island concentration camp he'll holes for refugees .. use those.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 year ago

Fine. But this time we use gene drive on Emus and Huntsman's instead of guns.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're trying to make being trans a felony called "gender fraud". Just throwing that out there.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 year ago

And it'll expand to those with "Trump derangement syndrome".

The US is fucked.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 21 points 1 year ago

He also thinks it's a crime to report anything negative about him.

Genuinely one of the only things keeping me going is that the when the cultural backlash happens and mark my words it will happen, it's gonna be so massive and sweeping that these fucking ghouls and anyone who supports them will be in a living hell. I'm talking post Jan 6th x10 levels of hate.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As a US citizen who is losing hope, I'd love to hear any evidence that a cultural backlash will happen. I don't see it, anywhere. Even people who are as against this administration as me have simply given up and left the country already or making plans to leave the country. There are no warriors.

[–] AnonKingfisher@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

Hell, you would think that after the shitshow that Reagan had caused during his presidency, they'd be a lot more furore against his legacy right about now. Forty years on, this "cultural backlash" didn't happen. People don't shun and hate him and his supporters nearly as much as they ought to. It's a complete and utter joke.

[–] y0kai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago

I'm hoping this is extinction behavior from the right.

It's unlikely.

Jan 6th x10 levels of hate

So that’d be … what, January 60th is February 29th or march 1st depending on year.

What’s notable about those days?

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

It will not happen. Americans have given up already.

[–] ExtremeDullard@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 1 year ago

Amerika Uber Alles!

[–] Sillyglow@lemmy.ca 15 points 1 year ago

This is essentially what the royals did back in trinity days in Ireland

That’s how we got Australia.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago

It’s not an “idea” it’s the plan.

[–] RadioFreeArabia@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Britain had the same idea and that's how we got Australia. Which indigenous peoples does Trump intend to doom with this idea? Israel is already getting the US's pedophiles.

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

They’re the worst of the worst criminals. Trans and gay, right? Let’s just pardon the child rapist, J6ers, and high-traffic drug dealers.

[–] PizzaLamp25@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

People say I got nothing to worry about, but I guess they'll realize when shit hits the fan. Some of us know just from the smell of the room. If only they weren't so blind and ignorant.

[–] mazzilius_marsti@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

man every news headline regarding this idiot in 2025 seems like a Black Mirror episode

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 3 points 1 year ago

Hmm just got to figure out a place to put them....
Does France still own Madagascar?

Or is there some country we are going to war with we can demand them to surrender land for peace, and then plan to export the people to?
I'm actually betting Gaza as slave labor to build his new city he wants with Bibi, but he wants them to win first.

Isnt he guilty of a bit north of 3 and a half dozen felonies?

Shit or get off the pot.

Thank goodness it is only an idea.
