Donald Trump's administration on Saturday was accused of promoting the Russian flag, on Flag Day.

The Department of Defense over the weekend wished social media a "Happy Flag Day!"

"Let us honor the emblem of our nation and the stars and stripes that unite us all. As we display our nations flag and reflect on the values it represents, let’s celebrate the freedom, courage and resilience that makes our country great," the department stated Saturday.

The image attached to the post included two small images that appear to represent the Russian flag.

I had to click to the link to see what the issue was. The bald eagle coloration makes you not notice the bird's design!

I heard they were playing "Fortunate Son" during the parade. If that's true, it HAS to be intentional irony by the DJ. There's no way anyone could be THAT clueless... right?

The song is about how the singer was drafted to serve in Vietnam; he didn't have the connections to get out of it. "I ain't no millionaire's son."

A lot of conservatives play rock music thinking they're the good ones and not the very people the punk rock people are against

Trump dodged the draft

Trump bankrupted a casino

Trump faked his assassination attempt with wwe tricks.

Trump shits on himself every day.

Trump cheats on his wife.

Trump has small stubby sausage fingers.

Trump has a small stubby mushroom penis.

Trump has never been in a fight in his life.

Trump has never won a game of chess in his life.

Trump has never achieved anything without cheating.

Trump created concentration camps and created a secret police force to disappear people he finds undesirable.

Trump is a Nazi.

If you support him in any way, you are a Nazi.

INCORRECT!! WRONG!
I'll have you know that he cheated on all his wives, not just wife.
And he bankrupted many casinos, (plus a holding company for a casino), not just a casino.

Also he's a rapist. And a racist. And a convicted criminal.

Just in case anybody was wondering who those fuckers actually work for.

Tweet in question.

I think there are more serious things to write about the trump administration than a graphic design gaff

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 minutes ago

That's clearly not intentional, but it is funny.

The question I'm constantly asking myself, is this incompetence or Russian influence?

The answer I usually come up with is "probably both".

I see the design choice since the background is blue. But the answer is you change the background or separate the flag colors from it. You don't go transparent because the background is the color you want. It's a separate thing and it's always red-white-blue. This is like wearing a green tie if you're a weather person, except they're usually competent and do it on purpose.

I'd throw the "porque no los dos" meme up here, but it was deported last week.

Or a designer who's not exactly happy.

[–] RunawayFixer@lemmy.world 22 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

To me this looks as much as a gaff as Elon Musk his Nazi salutes. This "gaff" is yet another obvious dog whistle by USA republicans.

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 27 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Even so, it is still pretty funny

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 hour ago (2 children)

It's not a gaff though.

This color combo and layout has been used by the us military for badges and medals for a very long time.

You'll find that the usual color layout is red/white/blue, not white/blue/red.

The bars on the sides of the star in the middle.

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Unless the military has been controlled by the Russians for well over a hundred years, this is a standard military badge.

There is no gaff here, just a bunch of people who dont know what symbols the military uses.

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 1 points 37 minutes ago (1 children)

Not always, several blue/white/red badges were issued for special forces during ww2

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 19 minutes ago

It's incredibly uncommon, but yes it has been done before. I think it's unlikely they were referencing these incredibly uncommon medals.

[–] Mihies@programming.dev 48 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

And this isn't even the first time. During previous presidency they did something similar with displaying Russian military equipment or something like that.

[–] CitizenKong@lemmy.world 45 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

There was also that Republican delegation visiting the Kreml... on independence day.

Happy cake day to both of you!

[–] timewarp@lemmy.world 27 points 13 hours ago

Everything he does indicates that Russia does have some kind of kompromat on him.
