Doesn't matter. Hell just lie and say 800 million people attended.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 31 points 1 day ago (7 children)

Is that for people in the parade? Or forced to watch it in person?

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 18 points 1 day ago (4 children)

They advertised for seat fillers, so a lot of those people were literally paid to be there.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

More likely they were promised payment, but have yet to collect.

You saw a satire ad. That was not real.

[–] proper@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

IF that’s the same thing I’m thinking of, that was a satire piece. BUT it’s possible there was something else I didn’t see after that.

Yes. The thing was to showcase 250 years of American Army, not modern shit.

[–] twice_hatch@midwest.social 4 points 16 hours ago

I would have loved it for historical interest if anyone else was President :(

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 4 points 19 hours ago

nah military is demodernizing to WW2 tanks, Make Tanks Great Again?

[–] clay_pidgin@sh.itjust.works 5 points 19 hours ago

Apparently they had to rent them from movie prop houses.

Ah yes, Milkshake.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 8 points 21 hours ago (4 children)

Not sure I believe that number. But hell, I can't estimate crowds to save my life. At one point I was in the largest rock concert of all time, still have no clue.

All I can say is the one I went to easily had 2,000. And that's in the reddest part of Florida, and only 1 of 2 protests in Pensacola.

So 8 highschools. That's pretty good. A well known Mexican Pueblo doesn't even match that by at least 5 or 6 more people for Sunday church.

[–] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago

My highschool was more than 2000 people. And it was so new that our first semester was on two different campuses and they were still building int around us for another two years when we did move in.

Now I live in a very different area. The localist mega church gets 17,000+ butts in seats each week.

8500 people is less than normal tourism on a Saturday for DC. It was actually a net negative for attendance over just a normal day.

[–] Uranus_Hz@lemm.ee 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Four public high schools in my city and their combined attendance is over 9000

[–] macaw_dean_settle@lemmy.world 3 points 18 hours ago

The 3 in my district total over 7400. He/she must be talking about small towns schools.

The saddest trombone.

[–] ChickenLadyLovesLife@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

Not to judge, but that "crowd" looks a bit, uh, frumpy.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Nah, it was bigger than Obama’s inauguration.
