Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I hate that when guys like this who wear their faith on their sleeves get found out, it's all about "repentance and healing", privately, and never about actually paying the secular penalty for what they did. Ask for repentance not only from God, but from those people you harmed, by admitting what you did publicly and accepting the punishment. And part of healing is spending time in the slammer to reflect on what you've done.

Religion isn’t about not doing bad things, it’s about being forgiven for being a bad person. Religion is the justification.

Jesus, Yahweh, Allah

It’s all the same human toxicity being concentrated and used to abuse and oppress people.

[–] alexc@lemmy.world 9 points 8 months ago

Religion just makes all of that abuse easier by telling the victim they are “a sinner” before if even happens

Yeah I committed fraud systemically for the last 12 years by making my employees work before and after they clock out. But it's OK because I talked to my own personal Jesus and he said they're cool with it.

For those curious about what the Christian Bible says on the matter:

Romans 13:1-2
“Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.”

You are forgetting Romans 13:2.5 , in which Paul added

"Unless the government is full of Liberals, fuck those guys, amirite?"

I'm sure that's in the Trump Bible....

[–] Moose@moose.best 4 points 8 months ago

Which they would then quote out of context as "there is no authority except for god".

Does anyone think this is surprising? A “Christian” with money and power being accused of sex crimes.

[–] alexc@lemmy.world 6 points 8 months ago

To be fair, the word Christian in this sentence is not the one doing the heavy lifting.

Then again, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poor, powerful Christian

Conservatives trying not to be sex pests challenge: impossible

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 24 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Sexual assault? By a Christian?!

[–] FinalRemix@lemmy.world 2 points 8 months ago

It's more common than you think!

Christian music 'star' ?

There are some times when I'm so happy to not know anything about something in the news.

He was big in a band called DC Talk which was christian rock/pop. They are that genre's biggest act. This is big news for those people. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DC_Talk https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Tait

Christian pop music is a pretty bizarre phenomenon, which apparently is pretty big in the US for obvious reasons.

[–] kyle@lemm.ee 5 points 8 months ago

Goddamn I listened to DC Talk a lot as a kid, growing up in a Christian home. Didn't follow his solo career but listened to TobyMac, who was also in DC Talk. Pretty crazy news for that world.
