Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Hmm, so the felon in charge is making nat.guard into unhoused persons. smh.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 73 points 9 months ago (2 children)

A lot of these guys are being pulled from full time jobs and they don't get paid very much as a national guardsman anyway. This is horrible what they're doing to them too.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 32 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

That could work to our advantage. Piss them off enough until they lay down arms and walk off the job.

Three tenets to live by:

  1. Don’t fuck with a (wo)man’s wallet
  2. Don’t fuck with a (wo)man’s family
  3. Don’t fuck with a (wo)man’s food

~Edit: in my defense, I just finished watching David Tenant be the 10th Doctor, and the speeling is stuck in my head.~

[–] Taniwha420@lemmy.world 11 points 9 months ago (1 children)

"tenets" ... I thought you were giving me housing advice.

[–] dohpaz42@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Ha! Thanks. Updated.

[–] BrikoX@lemmy.zip 15 points 9 months ago (1 children)

They are not getting paid anything in this case. Usually they get paid by the state when doing work there, but since they were federalized they are under federal juridistion now and won't get paid by the state for deployment. And Trump isn't providing federal funds, hence them sleeping on the floor, having to pay for food themselves, using their own equipment.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 5 points 9 months ago

These are mostly teenagers living on the edge anyway, or they wouldn't be in the National Guard. This is so not cool.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 34 points 9 months ago

There's a running joke in the military that field exercises train you for when you separate and become homeless.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 9 months ago

I was wondering how he was going to speed run the bill of rights but I think I see the path now.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago

he is planning to do this in his parade too.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 67 points 9 months ago (5 children)

In before "We are asking all patriotic Americans to open their homes to our brave soldiers restoring order to the unlawful Democrat hellhole that is Los Angeles!"

https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/amendment-3/

Third Amendment

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 33 points 9 months ago

To be fair, asking for civilians to help place them isn't a Constitutional violation, forcing them to do so is.

Either way it's ridiculous and already well past the line of bullshit, bit that wouldn't be a crime at all.

[–] JPAKx4@lemmy.blahaj.zone 29 points 9 months ago (1 children)

honestly if trump violated the fucking third amendment I'd be kind of impressed. at this point which amendment in the bill of rights hasn't he violated?

It's like Trump broke all the ten commandments and now he's trying to break all the Amendments.

The entire extent of the planning is "Troops go in. Troops shoot protesters."

[–] D_C@lemm.ee 20 points 9 months ago (1 children)

This is not only incorrect, it is just plain unfair...
They are supposed to shoot TV reporters too. And, well, anybody really. Not just protesters.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I think the ones doing that were LAPD.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The army tends to have much better discipline.

Not always, but certainly compared to American police, who don't seem to have any.

army has better discipline

Yeah. Bar is so deep it's frozen, but yeah.

[–] MDCCCLV@lemmy.ca 10 points 9 months ago (2 children)

It's very easy to just tell them to get a hotel and they'll be reimbursed or just bulk order all the rooms in a couple hotels. The national guard troops along the border in their pretend mission do that, they all just stay at a hotel.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Multiple hotels have yold them to go fuck themselves.

I imagine they all have some idea what the people of the city will do to them if they quarter the enemy.

Edit: though i just heard, on the morning of june 11th, that a 'best western' let some of the invaders sleep there. So if anyone has any reservations with that chain, they should be cancelled.

Looking at traffic and road closures on Maps, 2000 NG are mobilized to watch a few miles of freeway going into the city. The protests are only blocking one side of the freeway and anyone can leave. What a massive over reaction.

And those troops are sleeping on floors and have no bathrooms. Imagine having to crush the liberty of your fellow neighbor while being unable to take a shit in a toilet.

Salute them for their service.

[–] lennybird@lemmy.world 26 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Same thing happened when they were finally sent to defend the Capitol on Jan 6th.

Also remember when Trump called them up and pulled them away from their families for Thanksgiving so he could fearmonger that migrant caravan full of women and children?

[–] BigMikeInAustin@lemmy.world 20 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yup, exactly what I thought of. Concrete parking garage in winter. Without food. Remember a few Democrat politicians would buy pizza for the service members because Trump didn't care about them?

Trump has so little regard for service members.

[–] altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Didn't he say those that got shot or crippled are losers?

[–] andyburke@fedia.io 20 points 9 months ago

The billionaires have us at each others' throats.

[–] Catoblepas@piefed.blahaj.zone 10 points 9 months ago

You know that parking deck or whatever they’re all sleeping in smells like farts and piss by now.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 5 points 9 months ago

trump never considered soldiers people.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

Had me in the first half, not gonna lie

[–] return2ozma@lemmy.world 24 points 9 months ago
[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 24 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Don't care. Name and shame every one of these people following illegal orders, at the very least.

[–] Brkdncr@lemmy.world 14 points 9 months ago (2 children)

“Go stand around” is much different than “shoot to kill”

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 9 months ago

Unconstitutional is unconstitutional. There is no grey area here.

And anyone who offers them a bed or a meal.

Unless that meal is poorly prepared and they get sick.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 17 points 9 months ago

Stop paying taxes. Let miller figure out how to pay for his stupid ideas for his stupid military.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 16 points 9 months ago (2 children)

When do we get to the point where our military says NO WE WILL NOT???? Can it be now please?

Any military that are actively down there in CA are dishonoring our country. Disgraceful! What is more important

doing what is right and standing up to dictatorship as the constitution says you should, or sucking an old fucks crusty dick???

[–] OrteilGenou@lemmy.world 7 points 9 months ago

You can't expect people drilled for obedience their entire careers to suddenly turn into rebels. You can hope, but you can't expect

[–] Glytch@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

When a general decides to say so. The soldiers at the bottom of the ladder have free thought drilled out of them during basic. They've proven time and time again that they'll follow illegal orders (just look at the war crimes committed in Iraq and Afghanistan). Do not trust people in the armed forces to be good people.

[–] RealSpiderLane@lemmy.zip 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

As much as I don’t care for Newsom, he’s playing this well. Using the photos of the guys piled on each other in some classroom to call out Trump directly.

Political affiliations don’t matter here; Americans like soldiers. Especially older people, they get livid seeing our soldiers get treated like shit.

If there is at least one national guard who has family in the LA area, you are acting hostile to a fellow guards family. The president of the United States doesn't give a fuck about you, or your brothers or their family. Do the right thing.

[–] wildcardology@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

100 billions per year for the military industrial complex but apparently none for the military itself.

[–] Absaroka@lemmy.world 8 points 9 months ago

TACO at it again!

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 9 months ago

A trump never pays

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 5 points 9 months ago
