Tabletop/party games? How big is the group? I could probably recommend half a dozen games for any group size up to 20
Small, four or five people and my mother doesn't take them well unfortunately :/
My family and I play simple games like uno stacko (Jenga) or bananagrams. Jackbox is also super fun and can get even people who don't normally enjoy games involved.
On the sideline my sister and I also will play a drinking bingo game for every time our parents do something predictable or annoying, which makes things more tolerable if you have complicated family relationships.
If your family likes singing you could also do karaoke? Or go bowling or mini golf?
Cookout at a park? Reserve a space that has a roof and grill, and everyone else can bring sides?
Depending on your area food like korean bbq, hot pot, or entertainment stuff like kart races and golf ranges a la top golf might work out.
I second hotpot, it's not only fun, but also healthy.
Buy 10x wings per person and 10x hot sauces and craft your own hot ones interviews. Depending on the amount t of people you have you can ask all or only a few people questions per wing. You can really get to know some fun stuff about your family/friends that you may not have known before

Not super expensive and lots of fun? Make your own tacos and make your own sundaes.
Two kinds of taco shells, two kinds of meat, a bunch of toppings and your set.
Three kinds of ice cream, chocolate sauce, a few other toppings, and a couple of cans of whipped cream.
Tell the littlest kids to wear bathing suits and hose them down after the meal.

Simplest is almost always the best.
You could do a theme potluck that also leans into a decorative theme. So for example, a Tiki theme, tropical drinks, and people bring some Hawaiian food.
Does it need to be food oriented?
If not, then yard games in a park.
What about charades? If your family is too shy for that, you can get them to draw instead of acting things out.

If your family drinks, tasting party. Buy 3 different decent tequila/mezcal and have people talk or write out tasting notes.
Play Cards Against Humanity but aftera few drinks. Its an absolute hoot and riot. Its always raved about in my experience and it gives people an interesting way to blow off steam and be outrageous in a really benign way
You'll need a certain type of people to enjoy that, though.
I feel like its sort of the opposite and you'd have to be a certain small minority type of person to not find it enjoyable haha

Crêpes-party ! Cook a bunch of crêpes and prepare some stuff to put in : either salty (meats, cheeses, cream, smoked fish,...) or sweet (chocolate sauce, caramel, jelly, fruits spread, sugar,...). You can ask people what they like before hand, so that everyone has something they appreciate. If you need a vegan option, you can swap milk for plant milk and eggs for a mix of starch and water.
