Ye Power Trippin' Bastards

1225 readers
104 users here now

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.

Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.

Posting Guidelines

All posts should follow this basic structure:

  1. Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
  2. What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
  3. Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
  4. Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
  5. Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.

Rules

Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.

Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.

YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.

MODERATORS

Reddit privacy moderators recently censored this content over a day after it was posted. IMO the reason is suspicious.

Accessible at Reddit or Reveddit

(There are no subreddit rules banning "political propaganda" or "character assassination." Nor does this comment appear to rise to either of those accusations: other non-removed comments back up the removed one.)

Isn't r/privacy taken over by conservatives

[–] irelephant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago

Eich is a homophobe, cryptobro and the inventor of javascript.

All of these are unforgivable.

[–] muusemuuse@lemm.ee 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Brave is the chic-fil-a of web browsers.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Its the web browser that cuts babies in half, burns them, and sells their charred, lifeless bodies on a bun to homophobes for lunch?

[–] muusemuuse@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I didn’t know chic-fil-a was so metal.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

What does the name mean? It's right there.

Metal isn't very homophobic. Metal heads are some of the most accepting and nice subcultures I know, next to maybe furries.

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 day ago

I mean most of the metal attire we stole from our Queer Metal Daddy, Lord Rob Halford.

[–] muusemuuse@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

Reread what I was commenting on and pay attention to the actions imagined not who they were performed for. That’s what I was talking about. Metal heads tend to be okay with the gay thing. Like not even an issue.

lmao, of course he is. I've been bashing Brave since Ethereum markets took off and they did their shitcoin that of course they abandoned two months later. Quit blocking ads with grifter software trash like Brave.

Imagine being so fucking ignorant that you actually liked Brave even before finding out Thiel was involved. Eich's involvement was already enough (fuck that guy for inflicting Javascript on the world), let alone the fact that its business model is a protection racket wrapped in a crypto scam.

(Not trying to downplay Eich's bigotry, BTW, just trying to raise awareness of all the other underappreciated ways that he sucks.)

[–] Bebopalouie@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 day ago

Eeeep I am one of those ignorant people. Had no idea. Funny enough I switched back to Firefox a few weeks ago for other reasons.

[–] lka1988@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 days ago

Brave always reeked of VC money with all the promotion they do. It genuinely turns me off whenever I see supposed "for the community" software with heavy marketing.

[–] lemonmelon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

He's publicly against same-sex marriage and was a firm supporter of Proposition 8, an amendment to the California Constitution defining marriage as valid only between a man and a woman, which was later overturned in federal court.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 days ago

Wow that's fucked, yikes.

[–] LWD@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

I added a couple hopefully helpful links elsewhere in this thread, but this one is probably the most relevant

[–] raspberriesareyummy@lemmy.world 31 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

TIL. I hope that evil fucker dies (of natural causes, but soon, please).

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Im okay if he dies in a car crash, 'act of god', falling into a centrifuge, being on an elon musk rocket, private billionaire submarine, cthulu breaching the walls of reality, shredded by an angry ghost, eaten by giant possibly magic possibly engineered spiders.

There are a lot of ways it woukd be cool for him to die.

Hell; I'd be pretty psyched about some of these for me.

[–] Microplasticbrain@lemm.ee 9 points 2 days ago

Yea beggers cant be choosers

[–] foni86@lemm.ee 41 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What??!!?? That Peter Thiel? Could you give me a link about that?

[–] LWD@lemm.ee 26 points 2 days ago (1 children)

From a non-deleted comment on that thread:

Yup, Brave is financed in part by Peter Thiel's founders fund (and a bunch of other shady venture capitalists) which has funded Palantir and others.

Others also link to a couple videos about Thiel to what I presume was somebody asking about him.

[–] foni86@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Thanks for the info, Brave has just fallen to the Chrome level for me now

[–] ptu@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Anyone know any alternatives on iPhone they could recommend?

[–] The_TKS@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Firefox. Vivaldi if you want to stay with a Chromium-based browser.

[–] korn@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Nothing is Chromium-based on iPhone.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 32 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Criticism of dear leaders will not be tolerated on a corpo platform hence why people who actually care to have discussions end up here.

[–] LWD@lemm.ee 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The comments that have been removed here – and in several other places – are generally focused around billionaires or other people endorsed by the Trump regime. The pattern is pretty obvious in the removed comments, but there's no such pattern in the ones that are still up, because they often address the same billionaires.

(I've also noticed that several posts regarding Flock cameras have been deleted for similar suspicious reasons, but larger ones have been allowed to stay up.)

Bonus:

Bonus 2: This whole "you can't talk about stuff because of astroturfing" rule is sure inconsistent. You can talk about Apple, Cryptomator, Whatsapp, Telegram and Signal, Meta, Sky, Telegram again, Wickr, and Oniux. But you cannot talk about Brave.

I always had a feeling that palce was compromised.

I guess my gut feeling was not wrong few years back.

You can talk about privacy as long as you ain't hurting daddy' profit 🤡

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Soez lapdogs so fucking hard it's beyond sad. Dude legit does not realise that there is no magical number of gobbled cocks that will gain him entrance to The Club

[–] FelixCress@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Do we do Reddit here? Because I can post shit load of my posts and comments being removed due to them being critical of Israel - and that was well before the current genocide chapter. Mods there are awful and admins are even worse.

BTW I now realised who unpopularopinion mod may have picked up from 🤔

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemm.ee 24 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Reddit is the corporate shill of the internet. The shareholders, did you ever think of them when you criticized Israel?

[–] nokturne213@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Do we do Reddit here?

Unfortunately

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago

Yes, it's always fun to click on links that are reddit and meta because people think we actually want to do that. It's largely why I just post links as they are, unless they're just stupidly long.

[–] lasers4eyes@piefed.social 13 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Thiel has his creepy hands everywhere nowadays. Doesn't surprise me the least bit.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Especially his boy toy fell out of a multistory building(sound familiar) under suspicious circumstances last year, it barely made the news outside of Florida and was on Reddit for one day. When he start expressing concerns about thiels anti lgbti- support via the gop. Thiel definitely don't want the news to be widespread.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 1 points 1 day ago

I think it's been this way for a long time, but now people are talking about it.

[–] gothiccwaifu@lemm.ee 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Damn. So, assuming it’s true, what would be a suitable alternative? Is Firefox compromised or nah?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Even if Firefox were compromised by megalomaniacal shitheads, it would still be worth picking over any Chromium-based browser because every Chromium-based browser helps cement Google's hegemony over web standards.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 1 points 1 day ago

FF has problems of depending on Google for money

[–] LWD@lemm.ee 25 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Firefox is definitely a better browser than Brave (which has a history that's riddled with controversy), but there are a couple forks of it that intentionally make it more private too.

But for practical purposes, installing Firefox and disabling Telemetry is more than acceptable for the average person!

Librewolf & Waterfox are hardened firefox ~~but if you are more on focused on looks i think Zen is better~~

[–] PirateFrog@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Zen had some really concerning security/privacy concerns recently, which called into the question the competence of the creator, so I'd be wary of it.

[–] LWD@lemm.ee 1 points 15 hours ago

Is this an AI-generated news article? At that point, it might as well link to the original source. Thankfully, it looks like it was resolved:

Issue was fixed 7 months ago but raised concerns about developer expertise

I realize that hackers don't differentiate between incompetent and malicious backdoors, but I personally think the Zen developers are doing their best to make a good and private browser.

[–] Little8Lost@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Community reports of other privacy concerns being ignored

that really is very concerning
