Norris in the cooldown room watching Max crash into George literally said: "I've done that before... In mario kart" lol

[โ€“] 4am@lemm.ee 10 points 6 days ago

I like how they were all like โ€œhe got a penalty? For that?โ€ when the earlier contact was shown, and then when the incident happened they were all like ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

[โ€“] smeg@feddit.uk 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Lando just now when asked about that comment: oh, you heard that?"

It's a shame for Max that they stuck him on hards after he'd raced so well, but jesus christ does he get away with some nonsense. Ten seconds for intentionally crashing into a competitor? Ridiculously light.

He obviously went for the "ahead at the apex" rulebending* that he's used so effectively by rolling off the brakes and trying to claim the position off track on T1, and then when it doesn't go his way he's lost his head.

He's the best driver on the grid, not just in terms of speed but also consistency, track awareness and shrewd rule awareness too - but when he behaves like this it reflects poorly, the way it did when Schumacher was doing this sort of thing too. I guess that kind of anger is part of what makes a best-of-the-best racing driver though.

*It's not really rulebending, more following the letter of the law than the spirit, which is what makes a fantastic competitor -- very clever, very much maximising every inch of the track and of the rulebook.

Absolutely, but his signature move works only if he somewhat hits the apex, in this case he couldnโ€™t because of Russell alongside him. He should have accepted the screw up of gambling on multiple softs and having none at the end. They are professionals, such revengeful behavior because heโ€™s pissed has no place on any race track. Iโ€™m pretty sure being short tempered isnโ€™t required to become a champion. Unfortunately, as you said, we have multiple examples of it.

[โ€“] krimson@lemmy.world 9 points 6 days ago

Yep he went full Jos mode again which is a big big shame. I saw the replays of leclerc and russell and I can see where his frustration is coming from but in moments like this and after all these years he is still not able to keep himself in check. Let him pass, avoid a penalty and retry to overtake.

This might have been the moment the small chance at a WDC was thrown away (also by the team by putting him on hards).

I meant they discuss on tires strategy so given yesterday strategy with tires in qualify the hard must have been an option discussed.

Meme: You guys discussed about it, right? Right?

I imagine though that they weren't planning that additional stop under safety car. I suppose the data must have showed that fresh hards had a better chance than old softs on a restart like that, and maybe that was correct and we wouldn't be having this discussion at all, had Max not had that slide coming onto the start/finish straight as the race got underway again. Just a bit of bad luck for the team really, I think -- although you're right, they probably would have discussed hards at some point this weekend.

P5 for the Hulk! Points for Alonso!

[โ€“] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 10 points 6 days ago

Hulk had a bit of a sleeper hit there! Where did he come from on that restart??? ๐Ÿ˜‚

What the fuck happened at the end. Max's move made no fucking sense. Total red mist moment there.

He was aggrieved that he thought Charles and George both hit him while passing (for reason thinking any contact is illegal) and so after being told to give the pace back incorrectly, he Red misted to prove a point and ram George off the road while overtaking, as he felt was similarly done to him. He was totally wrong and intentionally used his car as a weapon. Disgraceful.

[โ€“] Damage@feddit.it 20 points 6 days ago (1 children)

He wanted to ram Russell in revenge, pretty simple

[โ€“] Ragglemcsnics@lemmy.world 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Yeah Max was having a bit of a tantrum.

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 6 days ago

Sometimes Max makes it so difficult to support him.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 16 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Did Hulkenberg in a Sauber just overtake Hamilton in a Ferrari?

Absolute legend lol

[โ€“] DV8@lemmy.world 14 points 6 days ago

A Sauber overtaking a Ferrari was not on my bingo card for this weekend

[โ€“] ChocoboEnthusiast@leminal.space 12 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Max should be a race ban for that, but it'll never happen.

[โ€“] Sentau@discuss.tchncs.de 10 points 6 days ago

At the very least, it should have been a disqualification from this race

[โ€“] ChocoboEnthusiast@leminal.space 11 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Fun seeing Max get Driver of the day, though. He would have deserved it until the last few laps.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 14 points 6 days ago

I get why they close the vote at some point, but if it was open till the end Hulk might have gotten it..

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 10 points 6 days ago

Max when he feels unfairly treated by the marshalls is something else.. this feels like the race where he and Norris were pushing each other off track

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 8 points 6 days ago

"Why are we on hard?!"

Same question here, Max. Official tire info says you should still have a used soft tire left that could be used.

[โ€“] DV8@lemmy.world 7 points 6 days ago

Piastri driving very mature after putting in the work to make it possible yesterday.

[โ€“] wanderwisley@lemm.ee 5 points 6 days ago

Max really showed how โ€œmatureโ€ he is today.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Verstappen is now under investigation for causing a collision, it seems. So what was the 10 seconds penalty for?

Was there two collisions? I know he was saying George hit him on the radio before he had to give up the place

[โ€“] hsr@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Leclerc podium looks very likely, Ferrari has been a rocketship on low fuel.

[โ€“] ChocoboEnthusiast@leminal.space 5 points 6 days ago (1 children)

A lot going to rely on when Max pits. Feeling a possible Leclerc too.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 1 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Aaand he's pitted under safety car. No way Leclerc gets that podium now.

[โ€“] ChocoboEnthusiast@leminal.space 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Max getting stuck on hard though... Maybe a flicker of hope there.

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 2 points 6 days ago

You're a clairvoyant

Spain 2025, the front wing battle race

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 3 points 6 days ago

Looks like the Sauber upgrades are working really well.. while Williams is not convincing here

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 3 points 6 days ago

Well, given how many cars took to the runoff there, I can understand why Nico did not know behind which car he should have correctly come back onto the track. He had no real advantage there.

[โ€“] doc3vil@lemm.ee 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Max winning driver of the day is wild lol - maybe people just really dislike George and found his ramming funny?

[โ€“] Microw@lemm.ee 1 points 5 days ago

The DOTD vote closes some time before the race ends.

[โ€“] DV8@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

How Max kept that car on the road is insane. And as I'm writing this. Seems like people bumping into Max at the moments his car isn't slipping...

Fernando taking the full tour of the track.

I'd like to see Max and Piastri battle a bit today.

Jude Bellingham did NOT read the room well lol.. laughing immediately after the Antonelli dnf while sitting at Merc
