I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you there. People are the problem, religion is a tool that can be used by authoritarian assholes hiding behind religion twisting it and corrupting it in the most blatant power grabs. Like any other tool, the capacity to cause good or evil lies in the hands of the wielder.

Do note, I am not advocating for any one religion. Nor am I advocating for state-sponsored religions. In fact, quite the opposite.

We can use it to teach people to love and respect one another.

I personally am a "Christian" as that is the word that best describes me in that I try to live my life the way Jesus lived. I however abhor organized religion and think that any random congregation of satanists are better followers of Christ than most self proclaimed christians. They don't believe in the spiritual side but do believe in the actions the religion was founded for. Helping others that have less and to work with compassion for a better life for everyone.

I wish there was a church that acted like the satanic temple but actually believed in God that's where I'd go. But till one turns up I'll keep to disorganized religion.

In-laws children have a severely limited reading ability. 12 and 13 year Olds can barely read some 4-letter words.

Their math skills are worse, sitting around 2nd grade level.

The youngest are still in the "learn to socialize with other children" phase of education, but all 8 of their kids need severe assistance in their education.

But when one of the answers to their homework is "why is math perfect? because God is perfect and God made math" then it's no surprise.

Religion is just one of the tools used to deprive people of human rights. Without this tool, they'd just pick another like "return to tradition" or "national values" or "anti-something measures" and use it as an excuse.
