Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

The White House has redirected COVID.gov to a new landing page called "Lab Leak: True Origins of COVID-19," which makes a five-point argument for the theory that COVID-19 originated from a mistaken lab leak in Wuhan, China.

The new site appears to use theories from the final report of the Republican-led Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, released in December 2024. There has never been a consensus or a "smoking gun" to explain what started the pandemic.

The same people who claim that COVID is a lab-leaked bio-weapon are at the same time against vaccines, masks and other means of defending against it.

[–] brrt@lemm.ee 25 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And simultaneously claim that COVID-19 is/was a hoax.

Yeah, that's the really fucking stupidest part of it all. The same gomers that said it was "just like the flu" and playing stupid games like saying people "died with Covid" not from Covid and being the most maximalist antiVA and antiMA Karens all while saying it was definitely a lab leak that Fauci masterminded.

I mean....what the actual fuck. These people have brain rot. Anything they thought put donvict's re-election at risk was something they fought against, so any reasonable response to Covid was something they hated, and still hate even now. I see this type still getting upset when they see a mask, still ranting about it online.

And seriouly, if donvict had probably done even the most basic and civil of things in response to Covid instead of his usual bullshit "art of the deal" shit he thinks is a great worldwide tactic....he would have been reelected most likely. But he couldn't even act like he had empathy even in the most obvious of scenarios to show empathy. It was all about donnie, donnie, donnie and "his" stock market and trying to play favorites between "blue" and "red" states when it came to life-saving equipment and so on.

I'm left leaning and was pro mask and vaccines, but I still believe covid started from a lab leak. Not with certainty, but I'd put the odds over 50/50.

Remember when over 1 million Americans died of COVID under Captain Horse Pastes' watch?

He's going to try to break that record this time around.

[–] stardustsystem@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It was over 5 million by the end of 2020, actually

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

They might have meant excess deaths due to diaper donvict's constant bungling and conspiracy theory-mongering and his total bitchiness about people smarter than him, like Fauci.

[–] fluxion@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago

Imagine fucking up an epidemic so badly that 5 years later you're still coming up with schemes to make it seem less disastrous

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 16 points 10 months ago

Say it was a lab leak, and that Fauci was responsible--who employed him? Who was funding the alleged "gain of function" research? Who was in charge at the time and how did they respond?

Did they take it seriously and try to stop the spread or did they lie about it constantly, pretending it didn't exist, wasn't a big deal?

I guess we'll never know.

I"m really tired of this xenophobic nonsense claim.

"Only the best people"

For FUCKS sake. These people are just every single worst person you ever had the displeasure of dealing with, summed up in one maladministration. The dumbest and most crass, mean, and hateful people, just out to troll all normal Americans.
