AirDrop operates via Bluetooth (and WiFi when possible)

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:
Rules (interactive)
Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.
Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.
Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.
Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.
That's it.
Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.
Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.
Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.
Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.
On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.
If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.
Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.
If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.
Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.
Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.
Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.
Let everyone have their own content.
Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

I believe OP isn't asking a question about which radios files can be transferred over, but rather is it possible to use Bluetooth File Exchange, which is part of the Bluetooth protocol stack, for receiving files on iPhones.
Oooooh, ok.
You can’t. This is why Apple developed AirDrop. It’s much better than simple. Bluetooth file exchange, however, it was pretty stupid of Apple to also disable Bluetooth file exchange, which used to work just fine on iOS devices until AirDrop came around.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
You think it was stupid? It was obviously an intentional choice to influence people to pester their friends to get Apple devices so it will 'just work'
It being an intentional choice doesn't make it not a stupid choice.
No, it was clever from a business decision. Unethical, but strategic. 'Stupid' would imply it was a mistake, or not considered properly.
Should also be noted that macOS does support Bluetooth File Transfer natively, so they did already implement it elsewhere.
This is not accurate. It uses BT to establish the connection and then it transfers the data over peer to peer WiFi, which is why it’s so much faster than Bluetooth File Transfer.
Someday Bluetooth will have more bandwidth and be renamed Blueteeth.
I'll let myself out now.
Not via Bluetooth but soon Apple is forced to switch airdrop to an open protocol. So you'll get it over WiFi https://www.ditto.com/blog/cross-platform-p2p-wi-fi-how-the-eu-killed-awdl
At work we do a lot of transfers between android and iPhone and vice versa. We use Verizon Content Transfer installed on both phones because it plays nice between brands and offers bluetooth/wifi transfer reliably. Verizon affiliation not required.
Use LocalSend. It’s open source and works great on all devices and platforms.
That's what I was trying to do. But without third-party software. I tried and didn't work...
In my line of work, if third party is free and works just fine with no downsides we don't continue pursuing a better option or we'd go insane.
Fwiw just saw this slide in the new android update. I'm not sure if it would work on iOS or if it would instead direct you to a Google app.
I know that can send via Bluetooth, before I dropped my windows laptop for a MacBook I used to transfer files via Bluetooth to my laptop.
