Hello fellow Far Side fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). I think this is supposed to be interpreted as '"lol gas = dino juice so a time traveler can get free gas" but I initially read it as "Finally I have located the birthplace of the first sentient hominid. It is time to undo the destruction of mankind before it even begins. For a touch of irony, I will immolate them with the very poison with which they would have devastated the Earth."
I saw it as neither. I thought his gas-powered time machine had run out of fuel, so he's walking to the nearest gas station (the joke being that there won't be a gas station in this era, so he's trapped).
honestly that sounds most likely to be what Larson intended lol
I interpreted it as the time traveler using the Time Machine to fuel his car / machine because it’s gone in the future.
Hey! He got lucky!
He can just grab a dinosaur and make it pee in his can before it gets into the dirt and sinks down to where it has to be drilled for!
I know what’s wrong with it.
