Summary

Justice Amy Coney Barrett sided with the Supreme Court’s three liberal justices to co-sign key parts of Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s blistering dissent in a 5-4 ruling allowing Trump to resume deportations of alleged Venezuelan gang members.

The four female justices warned the deportations could “have life or death consequences” for detainees sent to El Salvador’s CECOT mega-prison without judicial review.

Right-wing figures erupted, branding Barrett a “DEI hire” and “disgraceful.”

Influencers like Mike Cernovich and Charlie Kirk accused her of betraying conservative values despite past praise.

In March, she and Chief Justice John Roberts joined the court’s three liberal justices in holding that Elon Musk’s nebulous cost-cutting initiative DOGE could not unilaterally freeze $2 billion in congressionally approved aid for work that had already been completed.

“She is evil, chosen solely because she checked identity politics boxes,” Cernovich wrote. “Another DEI hire. It always ends badly.”

Notably, Roberts was not accused of being a turncoat—just Coney Barrett.

Hmmmm wonder why. Man, she did her job and got roe v wade overturned, and they'll still outright call her "evil."

Another DEI hire.

They will not be satisfied until the only people allowed to earn a living or have any power are straight white cis men. It's becoming blatantly obvious they don't give a shit about "merit". Woman/minority/LGBT = DEI no matter how they got there. They could have every qualification in the world and it wouldn't be enough to avoid the DEI label.

Wrong. This is fascism, there must always be another enemy. Cis white men will eventually become the "wrong kind" of cis white men. They will one day be labeled "impure", and find themselves under the barrel

[–] [email protected] 13 points 4 days ago

Yep. If they somehow were left with only cis white men, they'd redefine cis, white, or man to divide the remaining people.

turning on your own group to appease the overlords will only ever provide temporary reprieve

"Influencers like Mike Cernovich and Charlie Kirk accused her of betraying conservative values..."

Conservative values like.... (Checks notes) Denying the right to due process of the law?

... Current conservative values maybe.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 4 days ago

No, it always has been a conservative value. Conservatives started out as monarchists.

Gotta wonder how long until he tries to fire the women from the Supreme Court

Due process exists for a reason. Like making sure you have the right guy.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 4 days ago

If you have the wrong guy, just grab another guy! Easy! Do that until no more guys exist.

"Alien Enemies can be given a life sentence without chance of parole in a notorious prison in another country with no hearing or trial, and we will not provide any information to the judiciary whatsoever to allow for any amount of oversight." For arguments sake, let's accept that insanity as a true and just statement. Without oversight, without due process, what happens when you make a mistake of identity? "Just trust us". What happens when you stretch the definition of "alien enemy" past where it should apply? "Just trust us". What happens when you mistakenly or intentionally target innocents and citizens who are constitutionally guaranteed due process? "Just trust us!" No! Even if you weren't the most untrustworthy, corrupt, evil fucks to ever hold power, no! I wouldn't trust Gandhi not to make an occasional mistake. Due process is the BARE MINIMUM you can do to double check facts and mitigate risk of abuse of power.

If anyone can be denied due process, ANYONE and EVERYONE can be denied due process. That means you and me, your parents, your spouse, your children. Remember that

Influencers like Mike Cernovich and Charlie Kirk accused her of betraying conservative values despite past praise.

Just to be clear, this was after she voted to block some DOGE stuff; they're not claiming that wanting to keep people from being deported on flimsy justifications with no due process is a betrayal of "conservative values" (yet).

Honestly a good thing...

Very visible "first they came for" moment. It's not huge, but for some reason everyone is desperate to make excuses for why white women keep voting for trump, this will hurt Republicans numbers with that demographic more than parading around Liz Cheney

I'd like to see Dems run with this and highlight how the second the right doesn't need you, you're one of "them".

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago

Yeah they "defied" him by losing a case. Go resistance!!!!! \s

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

I really thought she’d just be another republican ghoul.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

If you dont kiss the ring, you're a traitor and a DEI hire. First rule of fascism, you don't question dear leader.

The bar for resisters in high places is so low that a bum off the streets, not living in reality, could vote against a crime while enabling countless other injustices.

And they would be feted, cheered, wined and dined by the high and low. They would be seen as good people, and remembered in history. School children would be inspired
