What's the point of putting link urls in an image? Are they trying to filter out the thirstiest of Lemmings?

At this point, because the urls are in an image, I have to think that either

A) Nicole is just not a very good scammer, inept about how basic technology works.

Or

B) The OG Nicole had been contained before the urls became images, and the current incarnations are just someone fucking around.

Especially with how quickly some users latched onto this drama (creating a whole community about it even!) it just feels like it's not even real at this point.

You can select text in images and copy paste, on phones even just long pressing will open links on images.

Sounds like other people need to keep up with “basic” technology?

You think the average person that would be susceptible to falling for such scams would take the time to download the image to open it in an app that allows that? You can't just click them if you open the image in a browser, even on a phone. You need to open it in an app that actually allows that. If I long press an image in anything other than my photo app, it just opens the share/save menu.

You don’t need to download or use an app, it’s part of the phones stock UI and tech now. I suppose if you’re rocking a decade old phone and haven’t updated it, you wouldn’t know about this now “basic” technology. But that’s a you issue.

This is what I’m talking about, you can’t even keep up with this “basic” technology that hasn’t required apps for years now lmfao.

I can even do it right through the voyager app without saving the image to my phone. Text messages, emails, you name it. Keep up with tech yourself.

I am literally on a stock android Pixel with the most current version of Android available. Unless I actually open Lens camera from the top drop down thing for something I am physically looking at, save the image, or take a screenshot, I can't just long press an image in whatever app I want and have it select the text. Even with Voyager. What the fuck phone and OS version are you using?

It’s almost like scams are made to target certain people, but anyone can get them or something….

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 days ago

Got this one too. My cherry got popped ;-;

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago

Either jwr1 or melroy had some good, good foresight so the image was not displayed by default when I got the message today

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago

Are these copycats at this point. There is no way someone is taking the links from the image and typing them in to get scammed by them? What's even the goal here?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 days ago

I received one this morning, too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 days ago

I don't understand how this spammer finds users to send them these messages...

I believe that's to convey the idea that she is "relatable".
