I don't even know what a "Baphomet" is, but these people STILL sound batshit insane to me
Baphomet is the goat-headed humanoid, usually depicted with one hand showing two fingers pointed up and the other hand with two fingers pointed down (as above, so below). Usually associated with the occult or pagan religions, today it's usually referred to as the Satan goat.
...........so it's even dumber than I thought.
They are dumb, but baphomet is awesome and adorable. Often depicted with a Solve et Coagula on it's stomach you may recognize as a medical icon. It symbolizes balance and duality, dating back to when we thought the key to curing sickness was "balancing" the 4(?) humors(liquids of life).
I.e. check out this fabulous fiend!
Fun fact, one of the earliest known usages of Baphomet appeared during the trials of the Knights Templar — where, surprise surprise, they were accused of worshipping it as a demonic idol.
So, as much as it is a symbol of balance, it's also historically a tool used by Christians (or more accurately their kings) to paint their targets as 'evil' or 'demonic'.
Maybe fun was the wrong word.
Honestly, this is a really important takeaway. A whole lot of satanism/demon worshipping fears come down to this: rather than being a legitimate concern, it's largely just a tool used to villianize others and play on the preconceptions of Christians.
You can share images here.
Exit: but thanks for the info
I wanted to, but most of the ones I found had Baphomet depicted with female-presenting breasts, and I wanted to ensure I wasn't going to break any rules by sharing it.
Edit:
If you'd like a more cartoonish version of him, then this image taken from the game The Binding of Isaac should suffice, even though he's labeled as "Satan" when you fight him.
That's all I needed to hear.
Because male and female he created him in his own image. I'm of the school that t'selah was misinterpreted, eg s/rib/side. I do know that in the Jewish faith the Adam/Atom/chosen species was androgyne, some rabbis argue intersex.
I still like the idea that it was penis bone and that's why humans dont have a penis bone
Just posted an almost opposite picture of homie before seeing this. I love the contrast.
The transvestigation people are absolutely insane. They've made up this whole universe where every celebrity is trans and they're being transed for the glory of Satan/ to destroy the family. It's incredibly weird. It goes from casual transphobia to belief in a satanic cabal in seconds. It's whole logic is basically "there is no variation in human body in regards to sex, therefore, any variation is proof that someone is trans". It's basically Incel body rating for terfs.
They tried to claim that Andre the giant was FTM, which is hilarious if you know anything about Transmascs.
One section has declared that Dylan mulvaney is a "Double flipper", who was born female, was made to transition to male, and then transitioned to female.
They will literally declare that folds in clothing or proof that someone has a penis. Completely innocent folds in clothing.
They're absolutely insane.
The Satanic Panic was around long before D&D and heavy metal music and it never really left. It just moved on to new targets. Someone, somewhere has always been doing something satanic as a plot, it's just easier to find people talking about it in the age of social media.
Same with conspiracy theories. The alt-right never invented anything new, they just recycled things that wingnuts and cranks have been spouting for centuries and adapted them to modern settings. Look at the parallels between "Hillary tortures children and drinks their blood to stay young" and the old Blood Libel conspiracy for example.
I go back and forth as to why I think this kind of thing is so enduring. Either people need to believe in some kind of evil because it allows them to feel good about being on the "right" side of something. It could make them feel smart to find "secrets" that people won't openly admit (because they aren't true). Or they feel some kind of cognitive dissonance if they don't have an enemy and invent one to quiet it. Or maybe it's just a convoluted effort to take control over something they aren't comfortable with in a "he who can destroy a thing, controls the thing" sort of way. Maybe all of them even.
I dunno, like you said, people are goddamn stupid and fucking nuts sometimes. Shame they're so often dangerous because of it.
I know these are crazy people, but I love the casualness of "having surgery and/or performing blood rituals" 😛
Whichever.
"Basically the same thing"
Gender affirming surgeries, blood rituals to Baphomet, same thing.
