THE POLICE PROBLEM

4490 readers

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

Remember, conservatives brought us here.

Break all ties with any you know.

Research any company you're intending to spend money with to verify they don't have conservative ties. Google the owner. Search their social media.

Do not aid conservatives in any way, shape, or form. Regardless of whether they are your neighbors or family.

“Google the owner” before intending to spend money with a company?

Didn’t Google donated to the inauguration fund? Isn’t it ironic?

It is almost like we should just boycott all big tech.

Don't want Meta/Google/Twatter/Reddit profiling you and giving your information to the feds? Stop using their services and encourage everyone you know to stop as well.

Until we put our foot down they aren't going to stop.

Believe it was the CEO personally, but that doesn't make much of a difference, it was just to abolish Alphabet of any guilt, should the Trump administration ever be toppled.

Anyway, since DuckDuckGo also uses Bing (yay msft) and Startpage uses Google and Kagi might be the most functional search engine, but it's also an AI-first company and based in the US... Let's consider Qwant and Ecosia. They are working on building their own shared index. Ecosia is currently more reliant on Bing than Qwant is, I believe, but they're both trying to be more independent of the American search overlords.

So basically, qwant the owner. Or ecosia the owner. Or if you really must, duckduckgo or startpage the owner. I can't recommend yandexing the owner because then you're just supporting another dictatorship.

at this point, when I hear about some prominent figure dying in some tragic accident, the first thing I do is try to find out who they vote for.

for example, that recent helicopter crash on the day of that dude's wedding with his three nieces in the vehicle. that's fucking tragic. no other way about it.

and my first thought is "I bet there's a better chance than not that this guy votes republican, I should check that before I feel bad for him"

Revolutions succeed by building a broad coalition of opposition.

You're telling people to do the opposite of that. Amateur resistance cosplay bullshit.

Do you see the issue? Educate, try not to discriminate. Those wanting to understand are open to criticism; but everyone's susceptible to butt-hurt. Be the better; if you can muster spirit to counteract the drain. The hard road is hard

It's by design: divide and conquer

People are fighting each other instead of the real enemy.

That's why elites and (quasi or not) dictatorships are winning.

I didn't expect the storyline of Metal Gear Solid 2 to be so fucking accurate. Lol

from 2001

Colonel: To begin with, we're not what you'd call "human." Over the past 200 years, a consciousness appeared layer by layer at the crucible of the White House. It's not unlike life started in the oceans four billion years ago. The White House was our primordial soup, a base of evolution. We are formless. We are the very discipline and morality that Americans invoke so often. How can anyone hope to eliminate us? As long as this nation exists, so will we.

Raiden: Cut the crap! If you're immortal, why would you take away individual freedoms and censor the Net?

Rose: Jack, don't be silly.

Colonel: Don't you know that our plans have your interests - not ours - in mind?

Don't agree with the form, agree with the message.

Joe McMAGA didn't bring you here. He has ruthlessly manipulated into believing a false narrative by those possessing the means of information - Google, Meta, OpenAI, X - coincidentally, trump's best buddies at inauguration and ever since. Don't you think that's true? If so, it's not by lack of means or motive, so why wouldn't they be the "conservatives that brought you here"? Aren't they the only ones not getting fucked and oppressed by this situation? Every time you see a farmer realising how much of a fool he was by voting Trump, "haha that's right you stupid fuck!! you deserve this!!" is the wrong attitude.

Joe is an asset and ultimately on your side in this fight. It's a fight for what it means to be American, and while you may disagree on what that is and you very well should argue and debate with them after, you both agree it isn't this.

Also, just wanted to say that this illusion that "voting with your wallet" is a virtuous way to exercise your moral agency is just mind boggling to me. Sure, "boycotting" some brand run by some poor fuck in Nebraska is very helpful towards stopping scenes like those in this video...

Conservatives destroy coalitions all together.

Did you forget ’06 already?

Not learning historical lessons is grave.

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The coalition between the Western Allies and the Soviets fell apart after the war. Nobody gave a shit how long lasting the coalition they were in would last when they were fighting fucking Nazis.

You want to be someone that just sits around at home laying judgement on people fighting Nazis because they don't pass your bullshit purity test?

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

If you're versed in the fact conservatives ruin coalitions as soon as it becomes favorable for their conditions to win are met, why are you envisioning a fictitious coalition for the side cheering on the Nazis?
These are the folks that want to carpet bomb us.

I would love to see an armed coalition, but liberals haven't even moved from their forts either!

I just see the actions taking place. And the conservatives you envision in a coalition are right there in that video, invading peoples’ home, killing them, abducting them, and making snuff videos on the deathcamps.

[–] sobchak@programming.dev 2 points 2 weeks ago

Conservatives are likely to turn you in if you do something the state deems illegal. Which is probably going to be a lot of things soon, but even now, things like abortions and using bathrooms in some parts of the country.
