Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Not the response you're looking for but Qobuz is a good paid alternative. Same with Tidal (although I have my gripes about MQA claiming to be higher quality than FLAC).
Qubuz allows you to buy music, download it and listen to them without subscription, as God intended. And especially if you listen mostly to the same albums/tracks, consider buying them elsewhere. Many artists have their Bandcamp page. For example, here you can buy E33 soundtrack: https://clairobscurexpedition33.bandcamp.com/album/clair-obscur-expedition-33-original-soundtrack
Unfortunately, there's no such option for Lies of P, but OST still available on Steam.
Direct purchase helps significantly much more than hundreds of your Spotify plays, considering how little it pays to authors even comparing to other services
I've heard of both. The main issue would be that my SO doesn't want to move off of Spotify because she's used it for so long and doesn't want to use a different platform. I don't really care what platform to use as long as I get a good selection of music and artists I listen to on the regular and can find new music relatively easily. Dabbled a little in a revanced version of YouTube Music which is ok for music that's not on Spotify but shuffling liked songs is a mess because I've had my Google account since like 2013 - lots of random stuff in there.
I'm paying for both of us because we're tight on money, so there's no real way out of it for the moment even though I'd like to
I understand that. I think it's okay to stay on Spotify and occasionally support beloved artists buying digital music or merch. I have YT Music for discovery, but buy favourite albums on Bandcamp, especially from smaller artists. Boycotting is a complex approach involving not only users, but musicians as well. Some already start remove their music from Spotify, and if it will come to big names, more people consider leaving
I don't have a good answer regarding your wife's concern and someone can likely chime in regarding transition of playlists, but I did find it extremely refreshing to have a fresh start on a different platform. I use roon to consolidate streaming options (it integrates with both tidal and Qobuz to provide an unmatched catalog)... A few years ago I paid for the lifetime subscription. I totally get this isn't the route most people will go, but I was paying for my family's plan and the lifetime membership to roon should pay itself off within 4 or so years (likely sooner given that Spotify is raising their subscription price). Beyond the tidal and qobuz integration, I have a relatively sizable offline collection that I can also access while out and about through Roon Arc. I was also able to open up access to my family (5 people) to access my library and tidal+Qobuz via my roon server... It's nice.
Starting with an untarnished algorithm that isn't trying to sell me on mainstream popular music has felt very nice.
The recommendations from Spotify felt like they lacked soul/personality. It made me feel like I was falling out of love with music (which couldn't be further from the truth... I was just being fed the wrong diet).
