Even worse they censor fuck but leave the R one in.
Censor a swear word but leave in the slur? Feels like right-wing humor.
How is it a slur?
Itβs demeaning to an entire population. Pretty much the definition of a slur.
But "idiot" has the same origin and isn't a slur?
It's based on usage. R word is tainted now, this might change in the future or not. Language doesn't care about etymology, only about usage. If the usage is generally negative and implies inferiority of a minority it's a slur.
Calling someone an idiot doesn't imply that disabled people are inferior, which makes it ok to use.
They are both used the same
They're used differently, which trumps historical meanings.

All Originally medical terms, that then entered comon usage as insults, fell out of favor medically because of that, were rejected by polite society, then after a refractory period and enough replacements, became lower grade insults that were more acceptable for common use.
Well the medical people stopped using it so it only makes sense, yeah.
Like when they stopped using 'idiot' and 'moron', those words became socially acceptable to use again.

It already is. I'm autistic and I've caught a ban a few times for saying things like "sorry, I'm a little autistic" or "lol my autistic ass" and the mods are like "you cannot use autistic as a slur" and I'm like "motherfucker I am not a slur".
