This is why I switched to Linux this year. I’ve just about had enough of Microsoft and their crap.
Also, I’m highly suspicious of any built in AI into my personal PC. Specifically, I feel like once it’s been a decade or so and AI is in every motherboard on every PC what’s stopping Microsoft or whatever AI firm it is from scanning every file on every PC using a backdoor to that built in AI for anything deemed offensive or illegal by whatever wack job is in charge at the moment?
No thank you, keep that crap over there and I’ll live forever in a world where I have control over my own property thank you very much.
Even assuming the OS-integrated AI is 100% non-nefarious in what it is doing at a given moment, the fact that its a proprietary blackbox is still a problem for me.
Mega corp using my electricity and CPU cycles to perform "???" computational task with no transparency to the actual owner of the hardware and the individual paying the power bill. Fuck that.
The very least that Trump and his cultists should teach us is that what is normal and accepted right now can change VERY quickly when a fascist takes over.
Being trans, abortions, same sex marriage, immigrants, anti-regime memes.
It's bad enough having them check your phones at the border crossing. How about your own computer ratting you out?
"AI" already is built into chips? 🤔
Are you suggesting they'd have like, hard-coded AI or something?
Oh for sure they will have hard coded AI into chips, they’re already doing it with things like Intels Core Ultra line.
It will be sold much like this feature where “It will work in the background to take the workload of trivial tasks from you” but once it’s there and integrated with your system, touching and scanning every file, image, video and communication on your PC encrypted or not it’s too late.
But hey, at least kernel level anti cheating will finally arrive and CS2 will be playable again 🤣
CPUs don't usually have their own integrated ROM, as far as I can tell the Core Ultra chips don't. Are you talking about the integrated Neural Processing Unit that those chips have? That's not hard-coded AI, it's merely the cores with which to run it on. Which are also more efficient for other Machine Learning tasks that are actually beneficial. The issue there would still be what OS you choose to run on it.
¿Que? Are you suggesting that anti-cheat would be integrated into the microcode? That seems a little absurd. It also would no longer be kernel level but instead some form of hardware level.
