It's like if you got robbed, and then instead of locking the door or taking literally any preventive measure, you just think "surely I would never get robbed twice" and then do nothing
Then you get robbed again, because you live in a shady neighborhood and you're gonna keep getting fucking robbed until you lock the door
lol! No matter how you illustrate it- you’re still blaming the wrong person!
Pay attention: The ROBBER is the bad guy in this story.
But, their negligence doesn't just screw themselves over, it screws the whole country.
To continue this analogy, perhaps you leave your house for a while and trust your friend to look after it. But they leave the door unlocked and you get robbed. They aren't "the bad guy" but I would certainly lose trust in them.
This is the last time I’m going to explain the analogy:
• Leaving a house unlocked
• Robbing said house.
ONE of those things is illegal. Yet so many blame the person for leaving the house unlocked. Was it the right thing to do? No. Was it smart? No. Was it a huge mistake in judgement? Absolutely. But should they be blamed?
In a logical world, No!
But- apparently, we live in a world now where conservative corruption is so normalized, that people look right past the obvious and go to blaming anyone but the criminals that did the crime.
And what do you propose we do about the robbers?
I propose we advocate for politicians to do something about it, and thus criticize those who don't. That seems reasonable to me.
Well, I’d start by holding them accountable for their actions- and applying harsher penalties for even attempting to enter a home uninvited.
This is the problem.
Republican corruption has become so normalized that in nearly every post about trump’s criminal acts- is just comment after comment about how it’s the democrats fault.
Are they blameless? Fuck no they’re not! And this is where we reach the nuance of the discussion.
Trying to put the blame on those responsible is in no way suggesting that the “victim” couldn’t have been more responsible themselves. There’s tons of shit they could have done to avoid this, but at the end of the day- as I said:
Only one of the things said in my example is illegal. And until the day arrives where one leaving their door unlocked is deemed an illegal act, I’m going to keep blaming the burglar.
Man I'm just not sure what you're even arguing for at this point.
Did I say it should be illegal to not lock the door? Did I say you should be arrested and the burglar should go free? I don't think I said that.
Republicans should be held accountable by going to prison. Democrats should be held accountable by not being re-elected
"Don't criticize my party for failing to stop Trump, that makes you a Trump supporter." is their bad faith argument.
You just said that can’t be blamed in your last comment but now they can be blamed but also it’s still not actually their fault… please get an actual argument.
No logic, only vote blue no matter who!!
What are you talking about “should they be blamed?”
Yes. Neglect for some things is, in fact, a crime. You can absolutely blame people for neglecting things.
