A note I found in my journal, from seven years ago, on the day I was summoned to participate in a jury of my peers:

I have to go to jury duty as a member of this democracy. what if I had a summons to contribute to open source software because I use FOOS?

I mean, sure? Fill yer boots.

That's what the public forum is: a collection of different opinions and perspectives.

I think the state forcing someone to both learn to code and then force them to contribute to a state-approved FOSS project (as that's how it will be selected) is, IMHO, the opposite of everything right in the world. But I also get that some people find comfort in things or circumstances that horrify me.

To each their own and, again, fill yer boots. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I didn't read that between the lines.

I just read that people should spend time with open source. For me, that includes wikipedia, osm, bug reporting, etc.

Imo, it would be nice if there was at least some introduction to this world to anyone (in school). There's no harm in getting to know this world.
