Hol'up. What skyscraper has churchy windows? Press X.

How so?

The site you linked to is “the skyscraper center”

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 weeks ago

And your Lemmy instance is .world, so you're a planet? 🤦🏽‍♂️

[–] jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Plenty of older buildings besides churches have stained glass.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 4 weeks ago (4 children)

No one said "older buildings", but I appreciate the logical fallacy. Can you name a "skyscraper" that has stained glass on the 25th floor? I certainly can't recall seeing one, either in person or otherwise. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[–] ripcord@lemmy.world 18 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

So many people in this thread getting worked up for some reason

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children)

All because some rando had the audacity to question if a "skyscraper" had stained glass windows —or, instead, OP simply miscategorized a building (more likely).

christ on a bender, what a puddle of barely-tepid straight-up stupid this thread turned out to be. 🫩🤌🏼

update: it was miscategorized.

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah this whole thing is pretty stupid lol. It doesn’t help either that OP has been silent. There’s another comment asking which building this was, so we’re not the only ones wondering.

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

It’s 1412 Broadway, got some art deco to it

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I think "miscategorized" might be the wrong term, because the word is more of an opinion. At one point in time the term referred to what we'd now consider fairly mundane buildings.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com -2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I can appreciate your opinion, though there are global standards in place for exactly this and adjacent terms.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah, so even this doesn't define the term "skyscraper" but, even if it did, common people aren't using the definition set up by some hyper specific group.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

It's a fallacy to think that something doesn't exist just because you've never seen one, especially when you are saying that, while looking at a picture of one.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 0 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Again. No one said it didn't exist. FFS. How old aren't you? OP said "skyscrapers", I questioned the specificity, and you muck about like a fucking moron with downvoting idiots in tow? Is this reddit all over again? 🤦🏼‍♂️🖕🏼

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Wow, methinks thou doth protest too much. You certainly did imply that such a location didn't exist because you had never seen nor heard of one.

And then when your easily disproven logical mistake falls apart, you go on the attack and start calling names.

Grow up, junior.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com -3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Awww, did your argument fail completely? So cute.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 1 points 3 weeks ago

Did I accidentally end up on Reddit? This is classic Reddit nonsense.

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago

I mean I just posted a picture of it

[–] markz@suppo.fi 4 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

Seems entirely plausible to me

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

This is the top of the building

[–] brownsugga@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

First one is the Woolworth building, tallest in the world for a brief period. The architecture of NYC is very rich and varied, and neo-gothic was in vogue for a time. The second is 1412

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

Thank you, OP, for the genuinely edifying response. I'm a fan of neat trivia like this, and I'll enjoy the rabbit holes this new info inspires. 🤓🖖🏼

[–] MelonYellow@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

Never seen that before either. It’s a valid question.

[–] otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 weeks ago

Not according to the downvoting toadies here. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Eh. Fuckem. 🤪
