Why is it only Strava that seems to be affected? Doesn’t Google and Apples own products also consume data from Garmin? Will they also be showing Garmin logo?
Strava recently sued garmin for patent related things. This could be retaliation
Good question, I just had a look at Garmin's API brand guidelines, and it sounds like all API consumers will be affected, as it states the following:
Probably, they can’t strong-arm Google or Apple like they can Strava.
Seems a desperate play by Garmin. Google and Apple have devices that compete with Garmin. They’re not going to blast the Garmin logo in their health apps. I know Apple doesn’t even mention the Apple Watch in session data when it’s used.
So, Garmin wants third-party software to remind the people who already own Garmin devices that they’re using Garmin devices. I guess.
They already insert their app between the device and the phone health tracking system. All of these barriers for what? Marketing? To people who already paid for the device?
