Since it turned into a for profit AG (stock corporation), the enshitification started and Deutsche Bahn is far form being "liked" today. The fact that the stock is held by the state doesn't stop the profit orientation and ensuing cuts to crucial staff numbers and infrastructure.

I am more adherent to the theory that the main goal of Deutsche Bahn's political management is to make sure it does not become a serious competition for the car industry. Otherwise, it would be hard to explain why countries as different as Switzerland and Slowenia can have an economical and well-working rail network.
