I really, really hate that one third of this country are truly rubes.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 38 points 1 month ago (1 children)

It's probably just that ~a third of humans are vulnerable to the fascist con. Most everyone is vulnerable to one grift or another, though this is probably the most dangerous one of all.

That's a fact that probably won't ever change. We desperately need social infrastructure to counter that threat. Campaigns, laws, cultural norms, social institutions that kind of thing. I don't pretend to know what exactly that would look like, but the need seems clear.

[–] BeefandSquints@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 month ago

I would imagine that the 1/3 that like fascism are also on the bottom of the IQ metric. Dumb people take comfort in authority, I think it's really that simple.

50%

A third is more likely:

  • 29.5% of the adult population voted for trump to be president. Imagine you're a fascist and trump literally says vote for me and we'll never have another election. You gonna sit this one out? Non voting regime supporters surely exist, but only in very small numbers.
  • Winning attracts supporters. We see this in sport, war and politics. Fascism is in the ascendancy. Some percentage of supporters are not ideologically committed but fairweather opportunists who can be pried away.
  • 2024 was not a free and fair election, and the results do not reflect the will of the population. Decades of gerrymandering and disinfo, illegal vote buying schemes, unchecked foreign interference, dark money and an electoral system that was never intended to truly reflect the will of the people gave us the result the wealthy wanted.
  • The voting totals could still be just wrong. Maybe. We all know why republicans spent so much time accusing the other side of being pedophiles, and they spent just as much time accusing them of rampant electoral fraud.

Nonvoters and general election protest voters are also stupid and/or selfish assholes, which pushes the number way past 50%

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Sucks you’re getting downvoted. They always come out of the woodwork and pretend that abstaining is action. I hate non voters more than MAGA.

Oh but they are quick do downvote anyone calling them assholes for letting the insane people pump the gas on fascism.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It's because there is a funded psyop promoting eastern dictatorships all over lemmy, and Trump was their preferred candidate. I'm trying to use Piefed.World more often because the main Lemmy developers are such people, but theres a lot of features missing and they haven't updated the instance in a while, sadly. Lemmy and Piefed are both frameworks that these federated instances are built upon.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago

I have similar concerns and was thinking about joining the solarpunk piefed for similar reasons

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There was a massive, expensive disinformation campaign coupled with every legal, semi-legal and frequently illegal barrier to voting that the republicans and their allies could bring to bear.

Calling people assholes because the rich invested hordes of time and wealth into driving down turnout doesn't make much sense to me.

Blame the rich fascists for pursuing this, dont blame people just because they live in a system where this is possible.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I saw what was happening. I saw people informing the public of what was happening. Then, I saw the Republicans win the election.

I don't know if someday I'll be able to forgive people for it, but I don't forgive a single cocksucking one, rn.

[–] faythofdragons@slrpnk.net 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How many people did you drive to the polls?

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I don't drive, but I did help 7 people fill out absentee ballot requests months in advance.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Are you aware we never got the ballot rejection rates like we normally do for elections? Trumpers had massive efforts in trying to have ballots challenged and rejected, particularly for signatures not perfectly matching on the ballot vs a driver's license on the absentee/mail in ballots. There's also Rockland County election lawsuit. Idk that he actually won.

It's entirely possible the ballots you sent in got rejected, unfortunately.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It's a pretty hard argument to make in the face of a 9 Million vote difference between Biden 2020 and Harris 2024, especially when Aggregate Polling and Betting Odds both predicted the exact outcome we saw.

It's also not actionable. The solution is more people voting for the DNC presidential candidate, claiming the vote was rigged does not further that goal and conversely helps Trump.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world -2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Polls had Kamala ahead. The guy who owns Polymarket is in bed with Trump and that could've been a money making scheme/scam re: bets.

Additionally, Dominion voting machines were just bought by a Trump group, Liberty Vote.

https://www.npr.org/2025/10/09/nx-s1-5569817/dominion-voting-liberty-vote-false-claims

I never said it was actionable, although we certainly need to be aware of it for future elections. I'm saying your hatred at society is perhaps misplaced somewhat, because there's clues that he did indeed steal some votes.

It doesn't help Trump to point this out, or Trump would be yelling it from the rooftops.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You seem to have decided that the fact that aggregate polling showed Trump likely to win does not agree with your perceived reality. Good luck living with dissonance. https://www.270towin.com/maps/harris-trump-polling-no-tossups Something to keep in mind is even if the polls showed Harris as more popular that the same polls still predict a Trump EC Victory https://www.270towin.com/2024-presidential-election-polls/ click the "view polls" link in red under a category to see full lists of the polls for that category.

I watched it like a hawk for all of 2024 and it was actually further in Trump's favor in the beginning and tightened towards the end.

Multiple gambling platforms reported Trump odds as higher, and there is no profit incentive to misreporting Trump's odds of winning on betting platforms. Betting doesn't work like that.

If your political ideology isn't actionable then stop arguing with me about this.

It absolutely does dissuade people from voting if you tell them that the voting is all rigged. I don't expect Trump to know a single fucking thing about what is good for him, he's a moron and now he's going senile on top of it.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world -3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

No, it was and is my genuine impression that polls had Kamala leading slightly, at least right before the election. I didn't watch the polls before that because it isn't "actionable."

I'm aware of the electoral college issue, that doesn't change the original sentiment that all of America deserves vitriol when it's possible many were disenfranchised.

They reported Trump odds as higher because their buddies were betting on him because they had insider knowledge. Elon paid over $100million for an online astroturfing organization and to siphon money from Dems, you don't think he was placing multiple million dollar bets knowing the election interference they had? I know how bets work. I also know how cheating on bets work. Every gambler is aware of cheating and assumes cheating. The entire Polymarket situation is suspicious. That they flooded other betting markets when their edge went down from their own bet volume is expected.

Anyway, polls and bets aren't proof that he didn't steal the election - the court cases and defunded the election security teams including the ballot rejection rates is. And disenfranchisement matters, and has for decades, it's civil rights 101.

The truth matters even if you don't immediately come up with an idea to act on it.

Ignoring votes being stolen in Trump's favor helps him. Refusing to point out issues that benefit him and disenfranchise people helps him.

Everyone should vote, no one is saying not to vote. In fact, being upset about disenfranchisement addresses a lack of votes directly. It's motivation to have fair elections.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This attitude is a gift to fascists. Save your scorn for the nazis who were able to subvert our shitty electoral system.

[–] finitebanjo@piefed.world 3 points 1 month ago

A gift to the fascists was almost 9 million people who voted for Biden staying home when the time came to vote for Harris. Trump's vote barely changed from 2020. The 2024 Nonvoters chose everything bad that happens under the Trump admin, they were the great deciders and they chose this.

[–] monkeyslikebananas2@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

They are even worse. Don’t @ me yall idiots. “Oh no I’m not getting everything I want, I’m taking my ball and going home!”

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

he also got alot more black, latino, and asian men this time to, who fell into the manosphere/incelism.

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (3 children)

That number is a lot lower when you factor in the people that are too apathetic / disillusioned to vote or be polled with registered voters.

Trump’s base is about 35% and his approval ratings are around 40%.

[–] Atropos@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

And those numbers are still just so unimaginably high

[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Depends where you live and what social media you’re being guided too. The right wing media bubble is quite massive in today’s America.

Also, Lemmy is very much not representative of the surrounding world. If that were true, everyone would be running Linux and would have a home NAS.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The rightwing media bubble is honestly wild. I went to a red area recently and every radio station had weird shit on it and blatant lies and propaganda. The newspapers, the conversations, everything, they kind of live in a totally different world.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

its also co-opted from russia, flood the news with crap, or firehose of falsehood. this how they keep people on thier toes from concentrating one thing. thats what trump is doing to distract from the epstein files and the fallout of the cuts, and the BBB.

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Gish gallop, they do so much we can't keep track.

Wild to remember seeing in 2016 the funny obvious Russian propaganda and laughing at it, and now it's here and just as stupid, but people are deepthroating it like crazy. Shouldn't have laughed at Russia, what arrogance I had

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

like the nobel prize news, is such an obvious distraction,

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)
[–] Ghostalmedia@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Some, yes. Others who are super disenfranchised, I kind of get it.

I ran into some pretty fucked up stories when I worked in Alabama for several years. Outside of Birmingham I’d hear stories from black voters about limited polling places, that were super far away, were hard to hit up during work hours, and had good ‘ol boys intimidating anyone that wasn’t white.

And if folks did tough it out, they were gerrymandering to high hell, so the vote was designed to go nowhere.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 0 points 1 month ago

aside from the voting machine riggings plus the voter suppression.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

the worst are the totally ignorant like the ones who dint know biden wasnt running anymore, or how they dint bothered because they forgot.

[–] alienzx@feddit.nl -4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

I'm sorry that you under counted....

Edit, I'm a socialist.. I meant more than a third of the country is dumb.

They made sure to get you though!
