I have one converted ebike with rim brake and one mtb with disc brake(cable), and honestly while rim brake never give me much issue, but after having to replace both rim due to wearing out(with one almost blown out on me mid ride), i'd say disc brake is significantly better in a way it's no hassle and easy to maintain and adjust. Other than that i don't feels like one have any advantage on braking over the other, both brake really well. I can see a lot of really low budget bike still come with rim brake and it doesn't really matter.
