Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

As in nope thinking the regime is going to fall is just copium hopium

Refresh my memory. How long were they boasting that the Third Reich would last?

There are many counterexamples to the third reich. China and Russia have been police states for a long time, with no end in sight.

Both Russia and China have long histories of centralized authority.

Most western powers have been comparatively short lived, constantly expanding and fragmenting into new power structures. That includes the US, which has always had back and a forth infighting between state level and federal powers. I give the current regime a decade more (they have been building up for decades) due to speed running the few things they could use to placate the populace into the ground.

You may be right... I just wish I could be as optimistic as you are. The political opposition to Trump's changes is very, very weak, and with all the money ICE has now, I'm afraid any popular movement will be swiftly repressed.

Let's hope US citizens are as resilient as they believe they are.

They said they would be guardians of power for a thousand generations. The reich lasted 12 years. So given that it’s this year theyre going full nazi, you can expect them out in 2037.

They said they would be guardians of power for a thousand generations. The reich lasted 12 years.

So they lasted less than a thousandth of the length of time that they chipped about.

Therefore, we should always disregard the boasting of fascists.

So given that it’s this year theyre going full nazi, you can expect them out in 2037.

There are parallels, but Hitler wasn't an elderly incontinent man with dementia. While both men are fucking idiots, one of them had functioning short term memory, and was able to not shit himself.

Also, have you given any sort of thought to how many firearms are floating out there in civilian hands?

Trump isn't the source of fascism in the us, he's just the face of it.

Also, have you given any sort of thought to how many firearms are floating out there in civilian hands?

Who are they going to shoot? Are they going to walk around town asking strangers if they're nazis?

It's as though you're attempting to fulfill a brief:

Discourage pushback against the Trump regime at all costs. Amplifying the idea that resistance is futile.

I see you.
