Microsoft appears to be working on new 3D icons for its Office suite. Reddit users have discovered the new icons in an email survey from Microsoft, reports Windows Central. The survey includes a brief look at the new icons, with Microsoft asking for feedback on its changes to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other Office apps.

The new Microsoft 365 app icons have a more 3D look and feel to them, and follow a similar design language to the 3D emoji that Microsoft added to Windows 11 in 2023. Microsoft also recently overhauled its sign-in UI with a new design and dark mode, as part of the company’s Fluent 2 design language.

Microsoft hasn’t redesigned its Office app icons since 2018, when it launched a modern look for apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. The previous design overhaul included a more simplified ribbon interface in its Office apps, and the original Fluent design system integrated into Office apps.

Microsoft hasn’t officially unveiled these new Office icons yet, and the company might just be looking for feedback before it tweaks them and releases something different. We’ve asked Microsoft to comment on the Office app icons, but the company didn’t respond in time for publication.
