Maybe I'll need that phone box in the future
I will admit that I store old phones in the original box.
Same with some old computer parts.
I used to do that.
Now I use a box cutter and cut out any bar codes or serial numbers off most of the boxes and put them in the motherboard box with the rest of manuals and accessories. It was hard at first but it's been good.
Great for shipping RMA, you know it will fit and get there in the condition it left in.
