If this is a true statement, why aren't the groups suing Colorado also suing the federal government for the exact same reason?
I believe that particular tax has been ruled constitutional in federal court. That money can only be spent on conservation. The government can't even take money out of it to fund other things, conservation only. Every wildlife/conservation agency gets funded by it. Because of that, a lot of people give it a pass right or wrong
The Pitman Robinson act is fairly popular even among gun owners. That money goes to conservation which allows hunters to hunt game and allows for state agencies to establish shooting ranges for the general public.
This tax seems to be to finances a crime victims fund. A noble end but tied to firearms, peaceable gun owners may be apt to be offended at a perceived implications that they ought to pay for the wrongs cause by criminals.
