I know it's definitely personal preference, but I've never seen the appeal in folding phones. I've never needed a bigger screen, and I feel like I would break it very quickly. In fact, if I could get a smaller screen than the standard 9 pro, I would.
Unless you unfold it (duh), the 9 fold has a smaller screen than the 9 pro.
Fwiw, I've had folding phones for a few years now and never had one break or begin to feel worn, but I'm sure millage will vary a lot depending on use.
Personally I love having the option to quickly get some more screen real estate. Perfect for spreadsheets, presentations, and video. Running things like remote desktop is also nicer. Having two apps side-by-side definitely has its' uses, e.g. I can look at that screenshot/thing someone sent me on slack while I'm typing up my reply (or browse Lemmy while "following" a dull work all hands).
I bought my first folding phone on a bit of a whim, pretty just because I wanted to check it out, but now I think I'd miss it a lot if I didn't have one.
Agreed.
However I would love to see a phone with two types of screens simultaneously, a common OLED one (for media) and an e-ink one (for reading and texting).
