Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

We all have suggestions, but we get banned for saying them. So, instead of trying to get people banned, maybe suggest your own solutions.

[–] WalnutLum@lemmy.ml 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Maybe we need to start moving to instances where we won't be banned for saying that stuff.

Isn't the fediverse supposed to be resistant to censorship?

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 1 points 11 months ago

You're welcome to run your own, if you're willing to handle the FBI or equivalent agency knocking on your door when one of your users makes a threat.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Theoretically yes, but the mods can still be corrupt. For example, we could go to your, ML, and be censored for talking about China in any way but positive. Even if it is pointing out the very very real event that happened at Tiananmen Square. Or, that China is not in the slightest bit communist.

Perhaps they will yell at me about genocide in order to get me not to vote so that Trump will win and they will be successful in overthrowing the west?

So, yes…. We ALL need to find an instance with no mods. There may be some rough talk, but at least we would be free.

That's called 4chan. You want 4chan.

[–] blakenong@lemmings.world -1 points 11 months ago (2 children)

We can have an open place to talk here too. The problem is who controls what is allowed, and what are their motivations? What we need is an instance that doesn’t allow signups, or community creation. Anyone can participate, but if can’t be defederalized because of bad users, like ML, hexbear, etc.

With no moderation (except spam), a small group of mods cannot control the message.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

And I'm saying that would just be a 4chan clone and that's bad for a list of reasons I shouldn't even need to rehash

Can't have the kind of free speech you're hoping for, on a public forum, without also welcoming Nazis and child molesters and long rants about Lizard-people.

Are there religious-themed lizard-people enthusiasts? Silly question. Of course there are religious-themed lizard-people enthusiasts, though I am blissfully unaware of them (a fine state to be).

But I was thinking of my favorite wingnut conspiracy theorist and godfather of QAnon, David Icke, who thinks (or thought? certainly I hope he's dead by now) lizard-people rule the earth. For Icke, it's political, though, more than religious.

There are no limits to human stupidity. (But that's what the reptiles want me to say, and I must follow their orders.)

I can’t wait for those damn dirty Apes to take over. I hear they have great healthcare.

I have listed some general descriptions of things that I am doing that I have seen to make a positive impact on others, my community and myself that I feel could be accessible to others in another comment elsewhere on this post. I also am making a mostly open offer of support to anyone trying to make a difference in the form of resources, time, energy, listening, etc when I am able to offer it, with the conditions lined out in the post (be acting in good faith mostly)
