Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

How long until Americans realize, and start to flee to Canada and Mexico. I'd advice those countries to prepare for millions of US refugees. Don't forget to include a bible and a gun in every care package to make them feel at home. Trump takes care of the immigration problem by making the US the worst place to be.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Way ahead of you. We left for the UK on inauguration day. Now I just need to get a job.

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

From all the European countries, you didn't pick a good one mate xD the UK is a mess

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 34 points 1 year ago (17 children)

I got to pick one where I can legally live, and one that isn't going to force my daughter into a conversion therapy camp for being gay, which is what I am concerned with at the moment.

[–] BeardedGingerWonder@feddit.uk 17 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I'm not super full of national pride, but its not exactly a hell hole and on the plus side we've recently elected a party on the left while a good chunk of the other major European powers are shifting to the right. Need to get on top of this Reform nonsense, but I'm not seeing anyone rounding up LGBTQ folk.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago

Agreed. And every kid my daughter has met and talked to has been very much accepting. Unlike a lot of American kids.

[–] ajoebyanyothername@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

party on the left

Very generous description of Starmer's Labour!

[–] Twig@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 year ago

There's some nationalisation going on, which is kinda left. Just isn't Corbyn's Labour, that's all.

[–] OrganicMustard@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They haven't banned conversion therapy either

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago

Okay, where do you suggest I should have gone when I'm only a citizen of the US and the UK?

Let's hear your plan.

Nice to have you over here. May i ask what sort of job are you looking for?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Thank you. I have decades of experience in audio video production and post production with a very impressive CV which hasn't helped much yet, sadly.

For me, six weeks to get a passport because I have citizenship rights. For my daughter (and wife still in the U.S.), it involves me finding a job that pays more than £28,000 a year.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

What if you were working remotely? Would that have counted?

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think so. As far as I understand, I just have to be in the country and prove I make at least that much a year or have that much in savings. But fully remote jobs are even harder to get.

[–] MothmanDelorian@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yeah I have a buddy doing remote tv editing gigs who is not in NY or CA. It has been very difficult since the easy money dried up.

They're the ones who suck. Make them leave.

As one of the blue states, we’re not getting directly hit yet. Our leaders are strong and I’m a confident we can hold out, like a beacon of hope, for the next four years. We can rebuild. We have the technology. We can make it better than it was. Better, stronger, faster.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

If only it weren't so difficult and expensive to get in.

[–] boreengreen@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Have you considered baing an illegal imigrant?

[–] nomy@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago

That's half our plans right?

Resist and throw monkey wrenches as long as possible then gtfo and "overstay" your visa at the last moment. Obviously this is more difficult for some of us and some should plan an exit sooner, everyone needs to focus on their own threat model and plan accordingly.

Be an accomplice, not an ally.

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Hmm, perhaps not with the necessary enthusiasm...🤔

[–] leadore@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don’t forget to include a bible and a gun in every care package to make them feel at home.

You're getting mixed up. The ones fleeing would not be the ones with the bibles and guns--those are who they would be fleeing from.

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

The loonies will flee too when they find out what they voted for.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm currently in the process of relocating to Canada via my job, know many others who are as well.

[–] Snowpix@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Some people are fleeing. The RCMP has been detaining a lot of people who have fled or are helping to move people out of the US.

Thanks. But are these people fleeing into Canada due to the Trump regime, or are they just smugglers / criminals? It says nothing about the motive. There are also people entering Canada to buy their meds there, smuggling them back to the US.

PS, in my head I'm reading it like a canadian from south park, adding "eh", "buddy", "friend", "pall" at the end of every sentence. Childish, I know, but oh so funny hehe.

[–] whyalone@lemm.ee 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fleeing to canada could mean in the future to flee to a 51st usa state, hopefully this will never happen…

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago (2 children)

It would be the biggest state. I doubt Canada has a republican majority, so for Republicans this would mean a nightmare. Never elected again. Not that elections will be an issue when Trump manages to sit until death, like his buddy Putin, and Xi.

[–] btaf45@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Narcisstic Buffoon Trump says he going to take over Canada so that he gets your attention for that one particular day.

Narcisstic Buffoon Trump says he going to take over Greenland so that he gets your attention for that one particular day.

Narcisstic Buffoon Trump says he going to take over Gaza so that he gets your attention for that one particular day.

Unless and until you hear news about actual US troops landing in Canada, Greenland, or Gaza, don't give Traitorapist Trump any attention at all for that crap. If he actually did any of that, he would have to pay a significant price. He is not saying anything important, so you are safe to go about your life.

[–] LordWiggle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I don't agree. I agree with him trying to get your attention, but I think it's because he doesn't want your attention at the stuff he's actually doing. Plastic straws? Rly? Better double check whatever else he's doing. He's constantly distracting everyone with some weird bs to hide his malpractice. No one cares about some simple executive orders when he's threatening to invade Canada, everyone will write about some stupid placric straws instead of some boring stuff which actually is harmful AF.

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Oh that's just the rhetoric. It'll never be a State. That would give it protection from the corporations. It'll be a territory with federal laws forcing them to allow corporations to mine and log anything the corporations desire.

[–] Jericho_Kane@lemmy.org -3 points 1 year ago

Imagine fleeing ro a county whose people have beed called drug dealer criminal rapists by the president they elected twice.
