Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

More Arab and Latino Americans voted for Donald Trump than have ever voted for any Republican candidate before in US history. The Republican youth vote was higher in this past election than it ever has been before, the Democratic youth vote was lower in this pas election than it ever has been before. The Far Left told us they weren't going to vote for "Genocide Joe", and Democrat youth didn't show up to vote.

There's heavy propaganda and misinformation in the Hispanic community about illegal immigrants. They hate people from South America and they believe that asylum seekers are getting thousands of dollars a week in food and housing assistance as well as direct payments. My Mexican coworker was telling me he saw a guy bragging about it on YouTube around the time of the election. There was recently a viral post claiming you could get $750 if you turned in an illegal, which isn't true.

Why pay for something that deranged right wingers would happily do for free?

[–] skulblaka@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

Just claim that you'll pay them, and then don't. They love it every time Trump pulls that. That's what makes him a good businessman don'tcha know

[–] gedaliyah@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Didn't I read about a state offering bounties?

Edit: Yep. Or at least proposed a bill.

They'll just make it illegal not to

Saw a guy bragging on YouTube and didn't even stop to consider that the dude was just full of bullshit?

God damn, we've lost all ability to think critically.

I've had this discussion plenty of times here on lemmy. They didn't want genocide Joe, so they got turbo genocide Donnie. They somehow didn't realize that "no genocide" wasn't on the menu, even not voting was making a choice.

Well, consequences haven't waited long.

Some guy was on here within the last week talking about how great president De La Cruz would be. As if her votes were more than a rounding error for either of the two major parties.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Yes, but she was just a legal resident, not a citizen. So straight to the concentration camp. Along with all the citizens. Oops.

The Far Left told us they weren't going to vote for "Genocide Joe", and Democrat youth didn't show up to vote.

BluEmAgA fucks post election: "Well AcKSHuLly, we were only a small voice, we couldn't have thrown the election, everyone knows our speech can exist in a vacuum and not have any effect on the lurkers on any other platform."

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

I love that you think the people who didn't drink the Kool aid are the cultists.

[–] labbbb2@thelemmy.club 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

By the way, some Russians (if not most of them) are also voted for Trump. They escaped fascist dictatorship only to make a fascist dictatorship "at home" (in the US).

I think, people from (toxic) collectivistic cultures are mostly uneducated and they don't realise what trauma/abuse did to them when they lived in their authoritarian (or democratic but poor and corrupt af) home country. Add do this a propaganda that is aimed, among other things, at Russians themselves abroad, that people among their acquaintances/social networks often spread it as word of mouth. They are easily deceived. And as the result, they continue to vote for such bastards who are capable of primitively manipulating people, even in democratic elections. Although, it cannot be ruled out that they choose those people in whom they see themselves, as in the case of Putin and some Russians (like 'identitiy politics' or something like that).

I don't justify them, but I would not blame voters (although people should be held personally responsible for their actions and learn to think for themselves). In working democracy with respected rule of law though, there would be a way to remove those like Trump from office almost immediately or check the votes for possible manipulation. Look, how they did it in Romania recently:

  1. "Romanian presidential elections cancelled by constitutional court" - https://www.euractiv.com/section/politics/news/romanian-presidential-elections-canceled-by-constitutional-court/
  2. "EU investigates TikTok over alleged Russian meddling in Romanian vote" - https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cm2v13nz202o

If Trump became president and the country immediately collapsed, then the question arises whether checks and balances were fair before.

Some other articles:

  1. "How TikTok Almost Won the Presidency for Romania’s Far-Right Candidate" - https://vsquare.org/romania-tiktok-campaign-presidential-election-far-right-candidate-russia/
  2. "TikTok still approving election disinformation ads in Ireland" - https://www.globalwitness.org/en/campaigns/digital-threats/tiktok-still-approving-election-disinformation-ads-ireland/

The stupidity of this election was off an scale. Shows how much dumb propaganda got spewed through X, Facebook, etc.

[–] cm0002@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

X, Facebook, etc.

Don't forget all that bLuEmAGa, genocide joe, a voTe foR HaRRis iS a VoTe FoR GenOCiDe crap was even spilling on the Fediverse even

[–] ShepherdPie@midwest.social -5 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

I dunno what you're upset about. You're getting the genocide and immigration crackdowns you voted for even though your preferred candidate didn't win.

You're even copying Trump's rhetoric here in blaming the left, who has almost zero representation in government, for all the problems you see in the government.

[–] Clent@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Calling them "the left" is their imagination. They aren't the left, they are by all measures a flavor of auth-right. They require a strict obedience with dogma that cannot be questioned.

[–] Alenalda@lemmy.world -1 points 1 year ago

I keep seeing this sentiment, but just from reading the text, you should have a look in the mirror.

[–] MasterBlaster@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

I'm not sure he was coming from where you think he was. I think he might have been lampooning those labels. The word "crap" seems to point in that direction.
