Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Summary

On his first day in office, Trump signed an executive order mandating federal agencies use the term "sex" instead of "gender," erasing recognition of gender identity.

This has led to the removal of essential information from government websites, including Social Security Administration guides on changing sex identification, LGBTQIA+ resources, and State and Labor Department pages on gender discrimination and passports.

Critics argue the policy spreads misinformation, adds stress for LGBTQ+ individuals, and echoes Trump's previous suppression of climate change data during his first term.

So much attention to spend on such a small percentage of the population. Kind of messed up. I mean, to be so preoccupied with transgender and gay people especially children...

According to the census of June 16, 1933, the Jewish population of Germany, including the Saar region (which at that time was still under the administration of the League of Nations), was approximately 505,000 people out of a total population of 67 million, or somewhat less than 0.75 percent.

Exactly. And if you have a small enough minority like that, the chances of the general public knowing a member of that minority so that they can actually recognize their humanity is much smaller, making them more useful as a scapegoat.

And demonizing a marginalized group is great for fascists riling up popular support.

I understand it’s due to the rotten minds of small men, but it’s just so strange to me that they would spend so much time to create a problem that shouldn’t be a problem.

We have plenty of other legitimate problems that need addressing, but instead these idiots are going out of their way to oppress a small percentage of the population who aren’t doing any harm.

Because it's all about manufacturing a "decisive issue" to keep everyone occupied while he sells everything in the US he can to the highest bidder. It's all about the grift.

Plus they have two attributes needed to make a great Boogeyman:

  1. Very small percentage of the population. You can go your whole life without ever realizing you met one, much less get to know them and start seeing them as human.
  2. Not always readily apparent if someone is trans or not. This applied to Jews in Nazi Germany as well. You can really ramp up the paranoia if people start fearing their neighbors and isolate themselves.

Absolutely. I've quit voting the stories, and vote the comments. Starve the egregore.

[–] tabarnaski@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 year ago

They see it as a problem because it challenges how they see the world. They have a hard time adjusting to how society has evolved, so rather than trying to change their beliefs they use their power to force the world to conform to their views.

Also, they're fascist assholes.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They sure love to know what's going on children's pants.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How else will matt gaetz know which children to sex traffic?

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

So gross, but accurate

I'm partial to the idea that they're terrified of hitting on a trans woman. In their mind, there is a fear of being perceived as attracted to someone outside their rigid definition of femininity, which challenges their fragile masculinity and internalized homophobia.
