Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Lmao, how would Trump ever do that?

If you want to sell your product/service in the EU, you comply with EU laws and if you don't comply you pay the fines. And if you continue to not comply your product/service will be banned and you will not be able to sell it legally anymore. And in case of a webservice like Facebook the site can get blocked real fast.

Maybe he'll try to annex the whole EU instead of just Greenland

I have a few tinfoil hat theories. You know, the kinda shit you come up with trying to plan for the worst.

One of them is that all these villainous world superpowers are going to get together and basically redraw the world. Eg: US will say they won't defend S. Korea, Taiwan, or Ukraine if they can get Canada and Greenland, that kinda shit.

And there's nothing to stop them

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Like fuck there's not going to be anything to stop them. All this "taking Canada" rhetoric is really making me fully understand the situation Ukraine is in. I always thought I'd find some way to dodge a draft, but if it came down to fighting to preserve my country's sovereignty, I'm taking all you Americans down with me

Half of us would happily join you

I really hope so. The way it's been treated so far, as if it's just a funny joke that we might consider (Canada would turn the US blue forever!, etc), even by more left leaning news corps like CNN has really left a sour taste in my mouth.

In a recent CNN clip, they were talking about how because we just "threw out our PM", we might actually want to be American. Like, no, we're a sovereign country, do not joke about invading us you actual fucking nazis, Christ.

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Fwiw, CNN is owned by right wingers now. Most of our MSM is

[–] NotSteve_@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Ah fair enough, that explains it a bit then. It's incredible that we've gotten to the point where the alt right/Republicans are just casually joking about invading ~~countries~~ ALLIES

Quick edit: I guess it has been a very unifying thing for Canadians though. The whole situation has really brought together the left and the right here against the US (excluding Danielle Smith but she's insane)

Like literally what Nazi Germany and Stalnist USSR attempted to do leading up to Ww2, creating spheres of influence and preemptively dividing up territory. (Of course the Nazis also knew they were going to turn around and try and take the USSR too)

[–] tiefling@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 year ago

Yep that's where the theory comes from. History is repeating itself perfectly

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 5 points 1 year ago

I'd say that's crazy and never going to happen, but looking at the past 10 years have taught me I have no idea what can happen and what can't.
