Rules:

  1. The mods are fallible; if you've been banned or had a post/comment removed, please appeal.
  2. Off-topic posts will be removed. If you don't know what "Leopards ate my Face" is, try reading this post.
  3. If the reason your post meets Rule 1 isn't in the source, you must add a source in the post body (not the comments) to explain this. If the reason is in the source but is tedious to find (e.g. in a lengthy video), you must add an explanation for where it is.
  4. Posts should use high-quality sources (for a rough idea, check out this list), and posts should retain the title (if one exists) from works like news articles, videos, etc. You may (but need not) edit your post if the source changes the title. Other types of posts should have a title which accurately, relatively neutrally describes their contents.
  5. For accessibility reasons, an image of text must either have alt text or a transcription in the post body.
  6. Reposts within 1 year or the Top 100 of all time are subject to removal. Within moderator discretion, this doesn't just include reposts of the exact same media but also includes e.g. a secondary source telling basically the exact same story as another that was already posted.
  7. This is not exclusively a US politics community. You're encouraged to post stories about anyone from any place in the world at any point in history as long as you meet the other rules.
  8. All Lemmy.World Terms of Service apply.

How do I request asylum in a country that doesn't want to erase trans people?

[–] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 17 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I was just starting to come to terms the fact that I might be trans less than a month ago and this shit happens.

Mood. It's a scary fucking time to have this realization, and I'm really not sure what I'm going to do either....

[–] MataVatnik@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yeah, I always suspected I was. But to come to the realization and acknowledge to myself that I am a trans woman is a completely different thing. I feel like I won some shitty lottery, like gee great I'm part of a 1% that somehow has become the Frontline of some shitty cultural war that I don't really want to be a part of.

Mexico

Mexico became the second country in Latin America, after Ecuador, to provide anti-discrimination protection for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Im not even kidding if they actually continue on this path and ban trans people or something like that, migration to europe from the usa might become a serious thing. Tbh i would find it nice if a bunch of americans came here to actually live. Would make for a pretty diverse place. Also european space program anyone? Half of nasa staff will come here, it will be like the ww2 just reverse.

I'm a nurse with 2 degrees- I'll be an asset anywhere I go. Or I can go back to bartending - I make a mean Hot Toddy.

Genuinely. I’m either going to need to drive to Canada next month or kill myself. I don’t have enough money to move.

Please don't talk about suicide. There is always a better way. Reach out to someone or the hotline if you truly feel like that.

I'm in Minnesota, if you can make it up here I'll take you with me.

Just move to europe and fake it til you make it. Worst case you'll be shipped back "home" and you have to travel back to the EU again from time to time.

Seems a lot harder to get across the ocean than into Canada, but I will take any viable option at this point.
