Billionaires are spending a fortune in both parties, so that their influence in the lawmaking process is secured. Therefore, this meme falls flat. Vote nevertheless, because your only other option is civil disobedience or all out class war

Yeah. There are two main reasons why they will donate to both parties. One like you said is to make sure whoever wins they still have influence with. The other is that it raises the threshold needed to be competitive in an election. If you DON'T do what the donors want, you lose that funding and have to compete with the ones they are still backing. It makes it absurdly difficult to run insurgent campaigns. The recent electoral successes took a national effort on the part of US leftists to make happen in order to just secure a handful of seats. You need a lot of engaged people to go up against people who can casually drop tens of millions of dollars to blast the airwaves with ads.

Doesn't make sense why they would spend so much money trying to disincentivize voting, remove mail in voting, and require id for voting. Seems like one side (that recieves far more donations from massive companies) wants to prevent voting, so it seems to me that voting would threaten them.

I think they exploited the psychological bias that n=all.

They do it for elections and they do it for major news media.

When people see these candidates they believe all the issues are represented and organized for.

When people see news coverage they believe that all stories have made it into the news cycle.

Even at the lower frequencies. For elections that could be independents or fringe politics. For news that could be local news stations or even social media.

The truth is many many issues aren't being represented and Many many more stories have not been told. If you look at what the national insurance pool does it could be said many are being suppressed.

That's also true for the courts.

We've decided that votes save Democracy (or it could be anything else). What I have not seen represented on the National level is why we are so addicted to votes to saving democracy (or your urgent issue) and if there are better systems.

Have you never had an obvious issue it seemed wasn't reaching the national level?

Have you ever asked yourself who's missing?

From candidates. From news stories. From landmark legal cases.
