Thanks for answering the summons. I am an art anarchist (you can tell from my work). Everyone can make great art in my book, and it very rarely has to do with technique or style (in my world) it's always about ecspressivity. More so, in my opinion, technique is more often an obstacle than anything else. Not because it's without value, but because I've seen it cut the wings off too many artists.
The 'anarchist' part seems to jibe. And I'm personally on board with your art philosophies to a certain extent.
That said, it does seem like there was a certain breakdown of logic and self-awareness when it came to your initial reaction.
I mean, you're posting (some may say "spamming") your personal stuff in a sub with a well-established backstory and tradition of examining fine art and classical art with great respectfulness. You then put out a general call for others and clearly get upset when I describe your stuff as being "amateur doodles."
Buddumpity-bump!
Now for sure, I wish I'd chosen my words better, as they were clearly unhelpful. At the same time, I can almost *guarantee* you that many folks won't really understand what you're trying to aim for exactly, and will pretty much think of your stuff in those exact same terms.
That said, even if one's art is universally slick and 99% impressive to general audiences, I still don't think it's great to share that and nothing more to a sub like this. To me it's almost like saying "I don't really give a shit about other artists or what came before. It's just all about me." Which I'm guessing isn't really how you personally feel, but impressions can nevertheless be a motherfucker.
Sure thing. Thanks for clarifying. Since I make a lot of art and like to share it, instead of sharing less, i tried to prompt the community to share more. I don't want to stop neither sharing nor producing.
I shared at the same frequency over at reddit with.. no issue (other than.. well.. reddit), mostly since a lot of people post everyday. I want a fediverse where my frequency isn't spamming, and that's what i'm trying to build.
Sure, that's understandable.
And the more I respond to these issues, the more I feel like a gatekeeping-shithead, in general. And no question about it-- I find that your graphics / photo mashups are pretty cool IMO!
Right, but it comes down to specific communities. Just as always, and across specific platforms. That's just how THAT works, for better or wurst.
For example, there are some subs that are all about original art, and some which attempt to (mostly) summon up the fascinating history of art... like this one.
'Snoken' isn't here these days for whatever reasons, but I feel like he'd want to help you share more classical art, if he was. Not just our own homegrown art, which for sure is legit art as well. But more like what I'm saying.
I'm going to shut up now, since I feel like a total asshole. I've said whatever constructively-intended things I aimed for, totally bumbling the message, most likely.
Good luck, and ciao, baby.
Hey.. uh.. .. you made me reconsider.. Maybe I'm harming this community.
I don't know of the history of art, nor anything about fine arts. So.. perhaps i should go elsewhere. Thanks for showing me the door. I'm out.
