Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

Hey at least there's posters on the wall and an attempt to make the space livable! And he offered her a cold drink!

I loved hanging out with the single bachelors in my slut phase, but good lord, most of those guys were very content with a single chair and a TV in their apartment and only those things.

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 88 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Have to admit, before I wanted a partner, I needed to build a proper "nest" to impress any potential mates. Got a home theater setup. All the right accoutrements and candles. Nice dishes, furniture, the works. I had designs to slay so much after I was done with the place. The only person I ever brought home ended up marrying me.

Before that? Mattress on the floor. One desk and chair for the computer. Didn't even have a TV.

This is the advice men need to hear. Cleanliness and a hand towel go a long way, too. Also no one wants to fuck in a smelly apartment, clean your damn cat box.

A trashcan in the bathroom let me know my husband was the one.

How do people both simultaneously shame men for understanding and not understanding women's needs?

[–] flilare@piefed.zip 18 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I think this more of a bar in hell thing. Who wouldn't have a trashcan in the bathroom? A demon.

[–] mitchty@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I mean I dunno but I’ve had a trashcan in every room rule since I left home so maybe I am the problem. The bathroom ones got a removable sleeve so I can empty it into the big trash can to make it slightly easier to clean but that’s more a recent thing it’s not rocket science.

[–] skunk@lemmy.zip 10 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Sorry I meant it as a comment on the state of men not the person I replied to

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

I did not take it as a comment on me! Or him, as he had the trashcan. And other qualities! It was mostly silly on my part, but it did inform me he thought about guests.

19 years later, I don't fuckin remember. He probably had emptied it and put in a clean bag before I came over, statistically!

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 26 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It can be very practical to live like that when you're on your own! I get it haha.

The only person I ever brought home ended up marrying me.

Damn, maybe you found your alternative career if the current one fails!

[–] okwhateverdude@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

Damn, maybe you found your alternative career if the current one fails!

Maybe it is genetic. My uncle did interior design for a living. To be honest, it was both difficult and easy at the same time because I knew what kinda colors I liked but needed to pick a scheme that said "responsible adult you want to fuck". What's hilarious is that my partner and I am not home decorator people. Current home is definitely not something you'd see in a magazine. It was easy to spruce up a little studio apartment, more effort when the space is a lot bigger lol

I always liked hosting people. So even when I had trouble getting dates (most of my 20's), I still kept my place in a condition that was good for having people over, and regularly had friends and family over. Plus I always had roommates so my home would always be a place where at least some social interaction would occur.

So it's kinda wild to me to hear about people not having their apartments in a condition where people they liked and trusted could see and give feedback.

If they didn't care about home dΓ©cor and just wanted to get laid, and the lack of home dΓ©cor didn't prevent them from getting laid, it sounds like they had things figured out pretty well.

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Two way street - I wanted to get laid and the lack of home decor didn’t prevent me from riding that dick hahaha. Win win!

At least the lack of decorations helped hide any concerning fandoms!

[–] SwingingTheLamp@piefed.zip 2 points 4 days ago

Indeed, and it's a good reminder that trying to improve myself based on the things that women complain about in their sexual partners is like armoring up combat aircraft based on the bullet holes in the ones that come back. It took me way too long to figure that out.

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

My mother filled my apartment with furniture and nice pictures. Made me look normal. I never understood why until my eventual wife came over and then moved in. The space is very important

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 13 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

My partner is rather autistic and part of that is not caring about how his surroundings look. Very practical person. He doesn't understand why I like having our house decorated, but he does understand that it makes me happy and he likes when I'm happy. It works out nicely sometimes!

[–] bluesheep@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Sounds like you got free reign on decorating the house, win win

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

An unexpected, but pleasant surprise!

My ex had very strong opinions about how our house should look - strong enough to push all of my wants out of the way - so this is a nice soft place to be in the aftermath :)

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 8 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Furniture-wise, what are we even looking at, though?

I think I see a dresser on the left and a green couch on the bottom right that appears to be pointed at a randomly placed refrigerator. Maybe it's a bed, but I think the shape is more like a couch. So, that's furniture from a bedroom, a living room, and a kitchen, all in one room.

Even for a studio apartment, this would be a very weird arrangement of furniture.

"Come, sit on this couch so we can stare at my refrigerator."

[–] kinkles@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

The couch could be pointing the opposite way to face something on the left side of the door past the key holder, like a wall mounted sword

[–] YetAnotherNerd@sopuli.xyz 10 points 5 days ago

LOL wall mounted sword. Too accurate.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

It's not that we were content, it's simply what we could afford.

That's the reality of late stage capitalism, it can take years until you can save enough money for the basics. I couldn't afford a couch until I was 30! Until then I had to put up with lawn chairs and bean bags. My credit card limit was only $500 when I was young, and we didn't have Affirm yet because it was the early 2010s; if I didn't have the cash, I couldn't buy it! So needless to say, decorations aren't exactly the priority when you can't even afford furniture!

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 8 points 5 days ago

It’s not that we were content, it’s simply what we could afford.

Nah, that's not what I'm talking about. I'm not separate from these bachelors that I was seeing, I'm not independently wealthy because I kept more than 1 towel in my apartment, and I'm the same age as them.

These were deliberate choices to keep things very minimal without any thoughts to having guests over.
