Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

I thought I was being a bit vitriolic, but you're literally just a fascist. What a horrific take. You would have cheered on the Holocaust.
As far as I'm concerned, you just wished death on all my trans brothers and sisters.
Their take has the politics of like the bleakest possible form of defeatism: giving up and letting it happen to you, while hoping that something good might come out of you being steam-rolled. They're not a fascist.
Idk sometimes people gravitate to the most hopeless political positions they can find and adopt them because if suffering is inevitable, then you're more able to accept it on your terms and it feels more manageable. There's a good quote somewhere I can't remember that says the apocalypse has become an escapist fantasy from the real world.
I suspect @wizardoffrobozz@lemmy.ca does not live in the US, and like the rest of us is getting sick of the overflowing toilet spreading turds all over the house.
It's extraordinarily frustrating to have no part in US happenings, but to be directly impacted by the dumbassery.
Things have been getting progressively worse for the last 10 years and Americans haven't done anything about it. Perhaps you personally have, but Trumpism is the great shame of all Americans - your shared burden.
What you've just encountered is how most of the world feels about the US. No one actually wants you or your trans brethren or any other minority group to suffer, but there's nothing we can do to help you either.
It's not hyperbole to suggest that the best influence Trump can produce overseas is a cautionary tale demonstrating what happens if you elect right wing idiots.
So, with the greatest respect to you personally, I have to inform you that my respect for Americans generally is at an all time low.
Congratulations! Now you know how most Americans feel too in this fundamentally undemocratic country.
My point is, in some ways it's worse for us because we dont have any opportunity to promote change.
Funny that you think that Americans have the ability to stop this short of a violent revolution that nobody really wants.

That's a text book false dichotomy. "Oh we couldn't possibly do anything at all because we would need a violent revolution which would be awful".
Also, I said "in some ways it's worse". We are not living under the boot of fascism, yet we have to bear the consequences despite having no opportunity to influence the outcome.
Literally all it would take for me to give Americans even an ounce of respect would be for them to make even the most modest effort to live up to the national mythology they’ve spent the better part of a century congratulating themselves for and belligerently forcing down everyone else’s throats.
No, I don’t hold other countries to the same standard, because they haven’t spent generations lecturing the rest of the world about their unparalleled courage, their moral superiority, and their supposedly instinctive resistance to fascism. They made fighting for freedom the centerpiece of their national identity. They demanded admiration for it. They treated any failure to provide that admiration as an insult. And now, when history finally asks them to demonstrate a fraction of the courage they’ve spent eighty years taking credit for, the pants-pissing cowards decide they’re helpless little babies and HOW DARE YOU, FOREIGNER?
I completely agree on all counts.
The economic, environmental, and moral harm is incalculable.
