From further down in the article:
She's mad that Macklemore put up pictures of the shit that the Israeli military did? But she takes no issue with what the military itself did?
That's not what she said?
What did she say about Israel's military actions?
Well, technically, she said that showing families the violence in Gaza is about Jewish people, not that she endorses that violence.
But also, had she just said "I don't think children should be exposed to graphic violence", she would've had a defensible point (which I don't fully agree with, but can understand where it's coming from, so we could at least have a conversation).
Instead she also chose to make criticism of Israel's military actions out to be "about Jews". So while she didn't directly say anything about Israel's military actions, she's evidently concerned that showing them to children might make them think badly of Jewish people.
Which she certainly isn't helping by propagating this "Israel = Jewish people" narrative, throwing all under the bus that don't support the Zionist doctrine.
Maybe nothing, maybe something, but doesn't mean she has no issue. Finding A in bad taste doesn't mean you support B.
You can condemn the genocide committed by Israel and also not want pictures of dead people in a family event.
She felt it necessary for her to speak out publicly against Macklemore showing the genocide that Israel is comitting. She did not feel necessary to speak out publicly againts the genocide itself. Priorities...
Yeah, fucked up priorities, but not proof of support...
you know how often the literal Nazi leaders publicly said they were doing a genocide, and were in support of genocide? while they were doing it? this is some flawed logic bud.
Is pink now doing the holocaust?
Support isn't exclusively stating you explicitly support genocide and nothing else. The majority of support is going to look like people who refuse to mention anything at all about the genocide but show up to tell people AGAINST the genocide that their actions, methods, wording, and choices are wrong. that's about the strongest public support you'll see. if your argument is no one can call it support because she isn't saying out loud 'I support the genocide in Palestine' you're making a very bad argument. Historically, a supporter of atrocities is going to tell others to sit down and shut up, it's going to claim nothing is actually happening, it's going to argue that the law allows the abuse or forbids aid and that's just because it's the law, or something else along those lines, it's never going to be someone saying they support the genocide directly.
That's not support, that's tolerance. Just like murder, there's degrees of wrong.
you're not making a comment your making a statement. this isn't an argument is a disagreement. these aren't words they're collections of letters.
There's no shades of gray on lemmy, I know. Any attempt at nuance bounces off.
can you look up which logical fallacy is the one where you ignore the argument and argue about the building the argument takes place in, I forget what it's called....
If you are not supporting a genocide then why would you attack people who are trying to fight against said genocide?
Thousands of reasons, greed, stupidity, narcissism, ...
Whataboutism.
Idiotism
She easily could have said, " while the atrocities israel are committing are terrible, I find the use of graphic images at a family event wrong"
Agree
