I'm Jewish. I'm not religious. I've studied a fair amount about Jewish, Abrahamic, and Judeo-Christian history, scripture, and culture. I am by no means an expert, but I've forgotten more about these religions than most people ever bother to learn.

Armed with this knowledge, I'm ready to make an assessment:

  • P!NK is a bad Jew.
  • Any pro-genocide Jew is a bad Jew.
  • Any Jew who calls people antisemitic for criticizing military actions is a bad Jew.
  • Any Jew who compares humans to animals and uses xenophobia to justify marginalization is a bad human.
  • Any Jew who uses comparisons to animals as justification for extermination is a bad person.
  • Any Jew who condemns children instead of reaching out to them is a bad person and is not paying attention.
  • Any Jew who celebrates the extermination of entire families, bystanders, and civilians needs to examine their entire life while literally eating a brick.

Another one for the list:

Any jew who forgets that they're not the only semitic pepple and cries antisemitism for themselves but not the Palestinians is a bad jew.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago (2 children)

No one hates being told there's more than one semitic peoples than semites. Gotta be God's most special children.

Also:

they're not the only semitic pepple

I'm not calling you out for this typo, you just reminded me of "pepole" from the old Dot Dot Dot video, so I enjoyed another viewing and thought I'd share. Context if you're not familiar with the source material being reviewed.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 days ago

Lol my screen is cracked so I didn't catch the typo and now I have to leave it in.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The voices where pretty good but that's it!

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I like saying "Explain to me... Explain to me!" far more than people missing the context enjoy me saying it to them.

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

"Antisemitism" means hatred of Jewish people. It isn't a general term for hatred of Semitic people, just like "homophobia" isn't a fear of sameness, it's hatred toward gay people. Hating Palestinians makes you a horrible person, but it doesn't make you antisemitic (though there's certainly plenty of overlap).

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No thats what they made it to be. Not the actual meaning of the word in a linguistic sense

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

As I mentioned with homophobia, etymology is not the same as meaning.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No but in this case yes. You're letting them take the meaning away from the word and in turn you're justifying their discrimination of other Semites.

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

The term was coined as a word for hatred of Jewish people. There was no existing meaning to take away. If someone is racist against Arabs, call them racist against Arabs. Quibbling over definitions just comes off like you don't have a better argument, especially when you're wrong about the definitions. Being racist against Arabs isn't bad because it's antisemitic, it's bad because racism is bad.

I hate that criticism of Israeli foreign or domestic policies has been equated with a criticism of judeusm and Jewish people as a whole.

There are definitely Jewish people in Israel who disagree with their governments actions. Same as every country.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 23 points 4 days ago

My family sure isn't in that group and I'm so fucking pissed at them. We lost dozens of family members in the Holocaust, passed down our stories for, like, 2 generations, and then said "fuck it, the real problem was that we didn't get to be the Nazis."

[–] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Am also irreligious Jew.

She is a bad person who only has allegiance to her own kind, national or racial/religious.

[–] dethedrus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 days ago

Great point. Most likely above all else now.

[–] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I like that last point, but you could've just said "any person who celebrates"

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

That's probably true, but there are no scriptures regulating how to be a person that I can use to substantiate that claim. Whereas I can point directly to where God yelled at the Jewish slaves for singing and dancing after God forced himself to drown all those Egyptian aggressors¹.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

True, but also swap 'Jew' for 'person'

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I did as I began to editorialize a bit more, but in just examining "what does Judaism say makes a good Jew," there are enough relatively black or white assessments that a good/bad value can be assigned. My opinions on whether or not someone is a good person is probably less hurtful to Nazionists than "your scriptures around which you've built your identity say that you're doing it wrong, and anecdotally, God hates you."

[–] starik@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

It’s probably not ok for a non-Jew to say all that, though, right?

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I dunno, I once heard an old congregant at my mom's synagogue say, "maybe it's time we admit that Hitler had a few good ideas" referencing rumors that Palestine was going to be turned into a concentration camp.

If you're a gentile, though, maybe try a phrase more like, "the Torah is full of tragedies for people who say stupid shit like that."
