The Facebook ones do have a light, but there are guides online to show you how to cut the cable to disable it.
should be hardwired, if the cable is cut the camera doesn't work
As long as you have physical access you can't stop a determined person disabling a led.
what about monitoring voltage to the LED and if it drops then the camera stops?
Just add a normal diode with the same voltage drop. Smd diode can be sub mm scale.
