I came here from Reddit hoping it would be better but it seems the same low effort/false slop is posted here too.
It could be possible this post is part of some disinformation campaign
It sounds good and some people share such things without critical thought. It's like adding sugar to petrol - it doesn't actually do anything beyond possibly clogging the fuel filter, but the promise of such easy means of destruction appeals to some.
Stick a potato in a tailpipe and the back pressure will blow up the exhaust manifold!
I actually did this as a kid and it just pops out like cork.
Internet said shove it deep into the exhaust pipe with a broomstick.
When you do this it pops out just like a potato cannon.
Turns out that exploding gasoline is stronger than the friction of a slippery potato in a steel tube. Who'd have thought.
Did the potato too, and the engine couldn't start, the potato just blocked the exhaust.
Man I heard about the sugar in the gas though, one of those rumors of the day back then I guess.
I also heard about dig a hole and put fertilizer around dynamite to augment the destructiveness, and that seems to be correct.

That's because nitrates are the main component in both fertilzer and explosives. We're so lucky plants convert the nitrates to non-explosive forms, otherwise cooking would be a high risk activity.
